📣 CLOSING SOON! 📣 🔎 Why does the police precept matter? The police precept funds essential services that keep Dyfed-Powys safe: ✔️ Emergency response (999 & 101). ✔️ Community policing teams. ✔️ Resources to tackle crime and keep services running smoothly. Without it, maintaining the levels of service you expect would be challenging. 🐴 Hold your horses, Livermore! 🐴 We’re excited to introduce the Livermore Police Department’s new Mounted Police Unit (MPU)! You might spot these officers and their trusted horses at various community events, bringing a whole new level of public engagement to our city. The MPU is about building stronger connections with our community. Here are some key benefits of this unit: ✨ Community Engagement: Mounted officers are highly approachable, making them a great resource for public outreach at events, parades, and more. 🏞 Reaching Difficult Areas: Whether it’s parks, large open spaces, or hard-to-access areas, our mounted officers can go where traditional patrol units can’t, providing crucial support for search and rescue or crime prevention. 👮♂️ Enhanced Presence: With their stature, mounted units provide a commanding yet approachable presence, helping foster a healthy relationship between police and the community. Our officers are undergoing specialized training to ensure they’re equipped to serve in a variety of situations—from community outreach to support in critical operations. If you see us around town, be sure to stop by and say hello! 👋 #LivermorePD #ServiceWithHonor #ProtectionWithPurpose

Change is possible.
Recent reports, conducted by UC Berkeley School of Public Health Professor Jason Corburn with the Center for Global Healthy Cities shows that the #AdvancePeace model has prevented 41 shootings in the city of #Lansing, saving the city $20 million. “Given the amount of gun violence that’s increasing across the country, I think the characterization is truthful. This is a health care issue, and it’s one that has a lot of different tentacles to it,” said Strategy Manager Charles Richardson of Advance Peace Lansing. We’re excited to see the relationship between the City of Lansing, Advance Peace, and the local community continue to grow, fostering safety, vitality, and peace! Starting the week en route to the Police Superintendents' Association 2024 Conference. Running over three days, I'm looking forward to talking to senior officers across the country about the importance of Neurodiversity within policing. 👮♂️ Why is it important that we have this conversation about Neurodiversity now?❗ - It's imperative in understanding how to safeguard victims and witnesses - We can protect women and girls from violence - We have the opportunity to break the school-to-prison pipeline - "Half the prison population are neurodivergent" (Ministry of Justice) - We can reduce pressure on the prison system and reduce reoffending - We can reduce the grooming and exploitation of children - We can improve support for staff resulting in reduced staff sickness and improved retention Myself and Caroline Turner will be at the conference talking about how Creased Puddle's specialist policing background can help create positive change. 🧠 🚀

Did you see what happened to #TyreekHill of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday while he was heading to work? For many Black Americans, having traumatizing encounters with police is unfortunately a common experience. According to Mapping Police Violence, in 2024, police killed 836 people in the United States. That's more than 3.29 people every single day! Police killed at least 1,247 people in 2023. Black people were 27% of those killed by police in 2023 despite being only 13% of the population. Police are one of the greatest threats to Black mental health and the well-being of our community. Not only do they murder us in cold blood, but they also traumatize and terrorize our loved ones who are left to mourn us. Furthermore, funding for police often competes with funding for life-affirming institutions and other social services that could address the root causes of crime. Investing in education, mental health care, affordable housing, and community resources provides alternatives to the cycle of violence perpetuated by systemic inequalities and racial capitalism, which often creates and exacerbates poverty (another source of violence). It is crucial that we advocate for a shift in priorities from punitive measures to supportive and preventative solutions that uplift and protect all members of our society. By focusing on the root causes of violence and ensuring equitable access to essential services, we can work towards a future where every person is valued and safe from harm. Together, we can build a society where justice is not defined by the strength of its police force, but by the strength of its community care and solidarity.
