Very privileged today to have seen a Governor General sworn in - surrounded by politicians of all shades, union reps, sport reps, community, mob and arts advocates - who represents the very best of us. Public school kid, worked through uni, saw and was provided opportunities through education, tenacity and determination. Kind, insightful, intelligent, thoughtful and compassionate feminist, business person, diversity, NFP and arts advocate and great colleague and friend. Governor General for the times. Go well Your Excellency Sam Mostyn AC.

On Veteran's Day, Harriet Tubman was posthumously awarded the rank of general for being the first woman to lead a military action in the US during a time of war. https://lnkd.in/gVXaiDbw Harriet Tubman is one of the historical figures I admire the most. Her life inspires a lot of my work and philosophies. Tubman was incredibly clear-eyed about her life purpose, and she pursued that with a tenacity that transformed people and systems. I've been thinking about what I need to be clear-eyed about as we enter into a new era. One question people often ask me is how conflict and accountability can coexist with liberatory practice. I believe at the core of these questions are wonderings about how we create and navigate conflict when we don't have power structures that make decisions for us. In traditional systems, we rely on rules about who's perspective dominants to decide who's opinion we go with. In liberatory systems, that practice falls away. Now, you'll have to decide together how to move forward. It means you have to be in relationship and have actual conversations about conflict to resolve it. It means you must make agreements about the work and see accountability as a chance to return to your agreements when your work falls short. You can't skip the conversation and be willing to engage in uncomfortable discussions to find agreement. This requires a type of bravery new to many of us. But in the coming world, it's a type of practice we must learn how to do together. I hope my work invites people to practice liberatory accountability together to engage in creation and conflict without relying on tools of domination and oppression. I'm feeling more clear about this after last week's election results. What are you getting more clear-eyed about? #LiberatoryPractice

As we celebrate the birthday of the iconic civil rights leader Malcolm X in 2024, it is essential to reflect on his enduring legacy and relevance in today's social and political landscape. Malcolm X, born on May 19, 1925, continues to inspire generations with his unwavering commitment to racial justice, empowerment, and self-determination. In a world grappling with systemic racism, inequality, and social injustice, Malcolm X's teachings and activism remain as pertinent as ever. https://lnkd.in/gZGbMaqb

In the first part of this session, we will become acquainted with what ethical leadership entails and discuss three sets of decision-making skills ethical leaders can apply when faced with organizational challenges, whether they are systems-based or interpersonal. In the panel, we will do a deep dive into the various components that make up purpose, and our three amazing panelists will discuss through their own experiences how their personal sense of purpose relates to the shaping of their professional identity and how they lead their respective organizations. It’s going to be a great session. #purpose #ethicalleadership #leadership Emory University Emory University School of Law

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗱: 𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗺 The 25th of May, 2020, is a date I will never forget. The tragic death of George Floyd was a powerful reminder of the systemic racism that continues to plague our society. This moment ignited a global movement and underscored the necessity for each of us to stand up and speak out against racism. As we reflect on the impact of George Floyd’s death, it’s crucial to continue the conversation and find actionable ways to combat racism in our communities and workplaces. I encourage everyone to watch this insightful Q&A with Torin Ellis, a tribute to George Floyd, which delves into these very issues. Think about how you can be a part of the change: - 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳: Learn about the history and ongoing impact of racism. - 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗨𝗽: Use your voice to call out injustice whenever you see it. - 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Implement anti-racist policies in your workplace, support organizations fighting for racial justice, and engage in community initiatives aimed at equity. Let's honor George Floyd’s memory by committing to real, lasting change. Each step we take toward mitigating racism brings us closer to a world where equity is the norm, not the exception. #GeorgeFloyd #Racism #Diversity #Inclusion #Leadership https://lnkd.in/eZVAc_JA

Replacing Confederate monuments with statues of civil rights activists allows communities to correct the historical narrative by honoring those who fought for equality and justice rather than those who defended slavery and white supremacy. Confederate monuments were often erected during the Jim Crow era as symbols of resistance to racial equality, and their presence continues to perpetuate the legacy of racism and oppression. By replacing them with monuments to civil rights activists, society can celebrate the progress made towards justice and inspire future generations to continue that work. John Lewis symbolizes the ongoing struggle for civil rights and human dignity. Honoring him acknowledges the contributions of Black Americans and other marginalized groups in building the nation. Replacing Confederate monuments with those of civil rights leaders promotes healing and reconciliation. It sends a powerful message that the community is committed to moving forward, united by shared values of equality and justice rather than division and hate. This transformation of public spaces can help to create environments where all citizens feel respected and valued.
