What kind of future do we want? Not just for ourselves, but for future generations. We didn’t foresee the pandemic, the rapid rise of AI, or the conflicts erupting across the globe. Now, we must ask: What will a post-Agenda 2030 world look like? How do we move beyond ideologies and competing interests to foster multilateralism and unite behind shared objectives for the planet and its people? These are some of the critical questions the Summit of the Future aims to address in the coming days. As we face accelerating climate change, widening inequalities, and rapid technological advances, the summit seeks to reshape global governance to be more inclusive, sustainable, and better equipped for the 21st century. It is a rallying cry for unified action that ensures a fairer, more equitable world for both present and future generations. Since its inception, Rondine has placed youth and peacebuilding at the heart of its mission. Over the past 20 years, through its initiatives, Rondine has continuously promoted the role of young people in fostering sustainable peace. Now, as we evaluate multilateral systems and their mechanisms, we must ask: Is it working, and how can we improve it? Rondine’s Leaders for Peace Campaign exemplifies how countries can—and should—act for a sustainable future. The Summit of the Future offers a unique opportunity for the international community to commit to peace in a way that goes beyond rhetoric. As Leaders for Peace, we urge global leaders to seize this moment and integrate the Rondine Method into their international peace and security strategies. The future of global cooperation depends on it.
🌍Today, to celebrate the #internationaldayofpeace, Rondine Cittadella della Pace launches "Leaders for Peace Voices". We start with Nnaemeka Phil Eke-okocha (former fellow at Rondine) who reflects on how the #summitofthefuture2024 presents a unique opportunity to integrate peace education as a core element of global governance. Don't miss it! 👇

Immersing students in international civics enriches their understanding of global affairs and fosters empathy for diverse cultures. Teachers can enhance this learning by partnering with local consulates, developing international school projects, and engaging with global citizenship programs. For instance, collaborating with consulates provides unique opportunities, while international partner projects allow students to directly interact and learn from peers abroad. Additionally, local organizations like the San Diego Diplomacy Council offer programs that promote international relations and diplomacy among youth, helping cultivate the next generation of global leaders. https://lnkd.in/gJmn2Z8h #GlobalEducation #FutureLeaders #CivicEngagement - #edutopia

Grassroots heroes don’t always make the headlines—but they do make an impact. This year, I’m focusing on learning from the powerful women who inspire me daily. Take my colleague Marie Saewert-Faller from Jung von Matt SPREE, for example. Working with her on a project in Seoul was a masterclass in DIPLOMACY. Her ability to navigate diverse cultural contexts and bring teams and clients together is nothing short of extraordinary. I’ve seen her turn challenging situations into win-win solutions with professionalism and poise. For 2025, my resolution is to channel Marie’s diplomacy. Curious to learn more, I asked her how she applies this skill in her work. Her response was: "Wherever people meet, different points of view, feelings, needs and personalities come together. Changing your perspective is one of the most essential tools when interacting with others - whether at work or in other areas. Always challenge yourself to pause, take the other person‘s perspective and, above all, don't just assume that he or she has bad intentions. This creates an ideal basis for discussion that builds on trust and enables constructive solutions - even if you don't share the same opinion." What about you? Whose skills are you planning to learn from this year?

Statement by Youssef Aroog, Co-President of the Mediterranean Youth Foundation for Development, at the conference "IF WAR IS A CHOICE, PEACE CAN BE TOO," on the contribution of young leaders to peace and security at the United Nations in New York, organized by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, the Permanent Missions of Italy, Costa Rica, Monaco, and the Vatican City to the United Nations. And here are the highlights: "I could have been a victim of terrorism if I hadn’t been able to access quality education and a platform that enhances my abilities." "I was inspired by the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi and was deeply moved by the handshake between the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and His Holiness the Pope. After that, I decided to contribute to spreading this document by organizing the world’s first youth dialogue about it, which became the project 'Dialogue on the Human Fraternity Document.'" "Opportunities for education in the field of peacebuilding should be available to everyone in this world." After watching Aroog’s statement, tell us what your role is, and do you have any ideas to support the culture of peace? #youth #peace #youth4Mediterranean #MYF

June 24, 2024 - BPIA Celebrates International Day of Women in Diplomacy This International Day of Women in Diplomacy, BPIA celebrates the women in our community who contribute to a more peaceful world through diplomacy. The establishment of the International Day of Women in Diplomacy by the United Nations General Assembly on June 24 reflects the ongoing efforts to address the underrepresentation of women in diplomacy. This day serves as a reminder of the strides made and the challenges that remain in ensuring gender parity in diplomatic roles worldwide. One of the United Nations’ greatest achievements was the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, spearheaded by a woman – Ms Eleanor Roosevelt. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights recognized the equal rights of men and women as fundamental human rights and women’s engagement in peace processes in Liberia and Ireland are just two examples of women’s fundamental roles in achieving durable success Black Professionals in International Affairs - BPIA

From Diplomacy to Friendship: An Afternoon That Strengthened Our Bonds and Charted the Course Forward Yesterday, I had the pleasure of hosting my colleague and dear friend, Janil Greenaway, Deputy Director of Public Partnerships at UNDP. With over 15 years of shared history, Janil has been a steadfast friend and professional ally. I know her as a former diplomat and member of the UNDP, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and UNOPS Executive Board. Janil’s support has been unwavering, especially as I recover from surgery. Her visit was more than just a professional meeting… We discussed our work and shared personal stories, underscoring the importance of mutual support. Janil’s dedication to public service is inspiring; she often goes above and beyond for UNDP and those in need, sometimes at the expense of her personal time. This led us to reflect on the value of time and the impact of those who, out of their private interests, feel entitled to it and to our future. Did you know the average person lives only around 4,000 weeks and there’s so much to do to build a better world. So, value your time and never give up on your future! This lunch was a testament to the importance of genuine connections in both diplomacy and life. And finally let me share my personal message of the week: "When you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked in. You won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain! You survived & you are not the same person any more! If you lost everything but you found yourself, you won!” Haruki Murakami #Message #Resilience #Determination #Leadership #Legacy #Networking #Diplomacy #Support #Healing #ProfessionalRelationships #PersonalConnections #Friendship

🌟 Personal & Institutional News 🌟 As we approach the end of December 2024, I will step down from my role as Director of Inclusive Peace and transition into a new role as Senior Advisor. While this marks a shift in my responsibilities, my commitment to Inclusive Peace's mission and its work in advancing peace and political change remains steadfast. Having founded Inclusive Peace and its predecessor, Inclusive Peace and Transition Initiative, nearly a decade ago, this decision reflects my desire to dedicate more time to exploring innovative ways to foster greater impacts for peace and inclusive societies also beyond the peacebuilding field. Our dedicated management team led by Zachary Taylor (Managing Director) and Alex Shoebridge (Head of Peace Process Support), will guide Inclusive Peace through this transition. Reflecting on the past decade, the landscape has changed significantly. When I founded the organization first as IPTI at the Geneva Graduate Institute for International and Development Studies, the world was characterized by vibrant peace efforts: 🌍 Peace negotiations stretched from Colombia to Syria, Yemen, and the Philippines. 📜 The United Nations was actively shaping peacebuilding with major reviews and resolutions, including mediation guidelines and focusing on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS). 🛠 Inclusion became central, driven by powerful civil movements advocating for broader, more diverse participation in peace processes. Today, the challenges are stark: ⚠️ Conflict levels are at their highest since WWII, with only a few peace processes left that are mostly stalled. 🔒 Authoritarianism and shrinking civic spaces threaten global progress. 📉 The UN's role in coordinating and setting norms has weakened amidst a blocked UNSC. 🌱 Environmental challenges and minimal international commitments endanger future generations. These realities call for fresh approaches. I am inspired to develop new avenues for creating broader impacts—engaging global audiences, networks, and the next generation of change-makers to advance peace and inclusive societies. I remain deeply grateful to my colleagues, partners, and supporters who have been part of this journey. Together, let’s continue the vital work ahead 🙏🏽 🔗 Please see the statement from Inclusive Peace below. #InclusivePeace #Peacebuilding #NewChapter #LeadershipTransition #PeaceProcesses #InclusiveChange #SettingChangeInMotion
✨ A New Era for Inclusive Peace: Welcoming 2025 and Embracing Change ✨ On January 1, 2025, Inclusive Peace enters a new stage in its journey as a world-class facilitator of inclusive peacemaking and peacebuilding in some of the world’s most complex and protracted political processes. For the last five years, Inclusive Peace has been led by Dr. Thania Paffenholz, our visionary founder, who launched Inclusive Peace a decade ago and guided the organisation through its transition from the Inclusive Peace and Transitions Initiative at the Geneva Graduate Institute. At the end of December, Thania will step down from her role as Director to take on a new function as Senior Advisor. Thania made this decision to dedicate more time to developing innovative avenues for creating broader impacts for peace and inclusive societies within and beyond the peacebuilding field to engage with global audiences, networks, and movements, including the next generation of societal and political change-makers. While exploring these new opportunities, Thania will also remain engaged in supporting peace and political change processes alongside Inclusive Peace’s partners. Our mission will now be guided by the management team, with Zachary Taylor as Managing Director and Alex Shoebridge as Head of Peace Process Support, alongside a dedicated group of research, peace process support, and operations colleagues across East Africa, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Together, we’ll continue building on Thania’s legacy with an expanded portfolio, spanning three continents and supported by a distinguished advisory board of thought leaders from mediation, diplomacy, security, and peacebuilding. Supported by partnerships across foreign ministries, development agencies, and foundations, our next chapter includes a renewed direction and deepened commitment to inclusivity in peace and political processes worldwide. We extend our deepest gratitude to Thania for her remarkable contributions to innovate the peacemaking and peacebuilding field as well as bringing inclusion to the forefront of mediation and peacebuilding. Looking forward, Inclusive Peace remains steadfast in its vision: “to set change in motion” and accompany actors to shape the future of peace and political transition processes. #InclusivePeace #Peacemaking #LeadershipTransition #Peacebuilding #GlobalImpact #ChangeMakers
