The U.S. military has, for the first time in generations, spent public money on minerals projects inside Canada: nearly $15 million to mine and process copper, gold, graphite and cobalt in Quebec and the Northwest Territories. It might not be the last: Officials expect additional cross-border announcements under the more than half-billion-dollar U.S. program (U.S. Defense Production Act). Barrick Gold Corp. ABX-T ⬇️-0.16% is facing mounting pressure in Mali as the country’s military regime seeks to boost its control of the multibillion-dollar mining sector at a time of growing Russian influence over its economy. The Malian government is closely allied with the Russian military, which provides thousands of soldiers to several countries in the region. Russian troops have been heavily involved in seizing mining sites in Mali and the Central African Republic in recent years, and the U.S. government has accused Russia of using African mining revenue to help finance its global military operations. https://lnkd.in/emgwzz5u

"Clive Johnson, B2Gold CEO and president, said the deal is in line with the company’s strategy of investing early in discoveries with Tier one potential. B2Gold holds the feasibility-stage Goose project in Nunavut, as well as the Fekola mine complex in Mali, where last month it reached a new regulatory deal with Mali’s military government for the complex." #b2gold#antino#surinam#gold#foundersmetals https://lnkd.in/gi28vHj4.mining.com%2Fb2gold-backs-founders-metals-with-8-8-million-investment-for-drilling-at-antino-in-suriname%2F&utm_campaign=aga&utm_source=agsadl1%2Cagsadl3%2Csh%2Fx%2Fgs%2Fm2%2F4

In #EV #News | USA military cash transfer to Canadian mines It's not the first time the USA has come to Canada for resources. The second world war is a good historical example. Fears of global unrest and a shortage of raw materials drove the investment back then, and appears to be doing the same again now. For now, the USA investment in Canadian mines comes with no strings attached but, that would likely change if a severe trade or shooting war in the Pacific broke out. #Innovation #Technology #Creativity #Future #Sustainability

Defence manufacturing requires metal products like nickel-aluminum bronze, Beryllium copper and copper-nickel for these and related applications, which include aircraft components, anti-missile defense systems, rockets, explosives detection equipment, missile guidance equipment, communications and satellite systems, as well as other highly specialized defence products and military equipment. This is a perfect example of when the government needs to step in. The Commonwealth should pay for the mining, processing and stockpiling of a years worth of Nickel (and strategic nickel alloys) to supply Australian defence industries and AUKUS allies. If the commercials of this operation are problematic…they can still mothball it then. Whats the worst that can happen ? Australian industry has access to a huge stockpile of cheap nickel ?
