Designing for fire and life safety can be complex, but there are general guidelines to the International Building Codes (IBC) requirements for openings in fire partitions: ✔️ Each opening should have appropriately rated fire-protective or fire-resistive glazing. ✔️ The total aggregate width of fire-protective openings on any floor cannot be larger than 156 square feet in most cases and must not exceed 25% of the wall's length. Want to learn more about the differences between fire-protective and fire-resistive ratings and where in the built environment they can be used? Click below! https://bit.ly/3VuXo0y

CFA Guide to Contract Flooring SITE CONDITIONS & ATTENDANCES ; So that floorings can be kept in the room and brought to room temperature (acclimatised) before installation. It is equally important to maintain those temperatures for 24 hours after installation or until the adhesive has cured. With fully flexible vinyl’s and linoleums flexibility is important for a good and safe installation. At low temperatures these floorings will harden up making them difficult to apply and with rolls of floorings, difficult to unroll (without cracking) and achieve a satisfactory lay-flat condition. In all cases, the minimum subfloor surface temperature should be no less than 10°C. It is essential with most floor coverings that they are laid in the same humidity conditions as would be expected to be prevalent in use. Temporary heating equipment which may be used to warm buildings to achieve the required temperature can also increase the humidity to a markedly higher level than would normally be expected. Also, turning off heaters at night in cold weather will lead to condensation as the air cools, causing water pooling on the surface of the floor. #building #buildingconstruction #buildingcontrol #construction #constructionindustry #constructionmanagement #constructionnews #constructionprojects #flooring #flooringsolutions #flooringinstallation

Mike's Rants If you haven't heard it from us enough, here's another video of how not to install waterlines. Especially, if you are framing with 2x4's. Just because the job is in NC does not mean that these will not freeze! States with smart plumbing codes dictate that water lines need to have at least R24 behind the line and no insulation in front of the line. We couldn’t agree more. Pro Tip: Keep Your Home Safe with the Proper Dryer Vent Material Did you know that building codes regulate your dryer vent exhaust system? Yes, those intricate and often expensive regulations are crucial for ensuring the safety of your home. Key Safety Note: While many know that lint buildup is a fire hazard, the material of your vent pipe is equally critical. Foil, PVC, and vinyl are non-code-compliant and pose serious fire risks. Opt for solid aluminum or galvanized steel pipes instead, both of which meet code requirements. Remember to check with your local building department, as codes can vary by jurisdiction. For more in-depth information, Terry Reuer, a dryer vent specialist, has written an insightful article on Houzz. In Wisconsin, residential construction follows the Uniform Dwelling Code (UDC), mandating an R-49 insulation rating for attics and roofs. This translates to approximately 7.5 inches of 2 pounds closed-cell spray foam. However, a cost-saving trick involves wrapping over the top plate of the wall, reducing the requirement to R-38, or just under 6 inches of spray foam. Whether on a roof deck or ceiling, tight application to the top plate maintains insulation standards, offering significant savings and effectiveness. It's a clever way to save without compromising on quality! Do you have questions? Drop us a message for personalized advice on maximizing efficiency while minimizing costs.
