Does it sometimes feel like the usual way of doing things just doesn’t work anymore? For many members of The Bread Bakers Guild of America Bakery Leadership Circle, that’s exactly why they joined the program. Over the past three months, thirty bakery owners and operators from bakeries of various sizes and years in operation have come together through the Bakery Leadership Circle to develop their leadership skills and address adaptive business challenges through peer consultation. In the next phase of the program, our leaders will set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound) goals for their businesses and work towards achieving them over the summer with support from their peers and program facilitators. Many of our bakery leaders are focusing on team-related goals—refining job descriptions, designing performance evaluations, cross-training staff, and creating operational flexibility. Others are working on writing product specifications, establishing standard operating procedures, planning for expansion, or preparing for succession. Common among these goals is the recognition that change is necessary because the old ways aren’t working. This applies to both long-established bakeries (the oldest bakery in our cohort started in 1977) and newer ones. And meaningful change requires real leadership: setting a vision, driving innovation, having tough conversations, and inspiring motivation. We’ll share more about the impact of the Bakery Leadership Circle on our current cohort in the coming months. Meanwhile, we are recruiting for our next cohort, which will start the program at the end of July. If you are ready for a meaningful change, learn more and apply here: https://lnkd.in/d6rFhbTg.

❗You are not going to like what I'm about to say but you need to hear it. Stop wasting time with long agendas in your meetings. Instead, focus on one-on-one sessions with your managers. Send updates via email, then ask for their takeaways and action items. This approach will boost development and engagement, leading to growth for your team and your restaurant. Lightbulbs & Learnings Great day yesterday continuing the journey from being a manager to being a leader with this fine bunch from Mildreds . No one can say that life in Hospitality is easy right now, which is why I always find the energy and enthusiasm these young restaurant professionals bring to every one of our development sessions. Yesterday we sat above the development kitchen and worked through some of the Purple Story (The Home of Operational Excellence) leadership fundamentals. The biggest lightbulbs of the day came from 2 favourites. The Pyramid of a trust from Patrick Lencioni’s 5 Dysfuntions of a Team, and The Shadow of a Leader and how what we say, do, prioritise and measure manifests itself in our leadership style. It was a bit of a landmark module, as all the previous discussions began to knit together and make real, practical sense and everyone is getting clearer on the tweaks and changes they need to make to be more effective. Btw, I’m the big purple guy at the back. The old looking one! 😆 If you have a group of Potentialists in your business who are on the transition from managing to leading, please get in touch with Lynda Merryweather to find out how Purple Story can help you and them. #future-fit #leadership #operationalexcellence

As leaders, it's crucial to define what sets us apart. -Peter Begg For me, it boils down to three key elements: people, culture, and programs. At Lions, we've built our strategy around quality and food safety, starting with the right people in the right roles. Without them, even the best programs are ineffective. #Leadership #Differentiation #PeopleFirst #CultureMatters #ProgramExecution

Two important leadership lessons below. 👇
Helping Restaurant Owners Lead Confidently and Live Freely. Author- Hospitality Catalyst - Podcaster - Speaker
Two of the greatest lessons I learned as a regional manager at a growing restaurant group that went from 6-48 locations in seven years was this... Getting buy-in from your teams and becoming an expert in change management is key. Explaining the "why," in every decision you make will help your team support your decisions and understand how those decisions will impact them, the guests and the company as a whole. Having a very clear process around how and when to rollout new systems will ensure minimal operational hiccups and build trust with your teams. #changemanagement #restaurants #thewhy #leadership

Restaurant owners often make the mistake of having more locations than their capabilities allow. Stretching yourself too thin by expanding too fast is dangerous. Instead of rushing into additional stores, invest in leveling up your leadership talents first. Learn to teach managers before scaling. Prioritize elevating your skills to match your growth. What makes a good leadership development programme? For many, it’s good customer satisfaction metrics at the end of a programme. But do they really say anything about what was actually achieved? Mike S. makes the argument for connecting programmes with business metrics: https://lnkd.in/eBb6C4SW
