Stay focused! 🎯 Sometimes in the midst of business operations, things pop up out of the blue and you need to make a decision. When there are decisions competing for attention, you need to focus and prioritize on what you need to complete the task or mission. @ IBM, In Software and Services Sales, I did not lobby hard/loud enough to my leadership the importance of developing situational awareness and competitive intelligence or a battle card around our key competitors. We won the SW deal, the go-live went well, the customer signed off the implementation, and joined our reference program. The customer is paying their annual Software and Subscription bill, we can place the account in "set it and forget it" YOY mode. This video below reminds me of what happens when you have an existing base of clients and you sleep on your competitors. You forget to build in "intruder alerts" to detect if you are being encroached upon. Everyone in the company is laser focused on the new shiny object under development which will secure new business while nobody is watching the perimeter of the Vehicle (existing client) or the market shifts. The competition is quietly stalking, walking up, and approaching the Vehicle and before you know it, you are placed in checkmate. You are surprised to hear that several clients who were early adopters of IBM's WMS/DOM are migrating over to Manhattan Associates. I worked at the Kellogg Company in the 80's and 90's and ordered a copy of this book for myself and our CEO, Dr. Gary Costley. We were always #1 in market share with record dividends.
