It's a time of change, with a new #Labour government and we hope, a new commitment to supporting young people. We will be reminding our newly elected MP for East Thanet Polly Billington that in April this year, Kent suffered the biggest cuts to its youth services in over a decade - and Pie lost 45% of our funding. The need in Thanet is great: ❗️ Top 10% most deprived areas in the country ❗️ 18% of children live in poverty ❗️ Highest rate of youth unemployment in the South East - 9.9% compared to the national rate of 5.2% ❗️ Higher rates of self-harm among young 15-20 year olds - 194 per 10,000 against a national figure of 119 We will be calling on the government to ensure that they deliver on their Manifesto promises to prioritise issues facing young people nationally by: ➡️ Investing (at least) £100m a year in Young Futures hubs with open access drop-in mental health services for children and young people in every community. ➡️ Launching a new National Music Education Network – a one-stop shop with information on courses and classes for parents, teachers and children. ➡️ Protecting LGBT+ and disabled people by making all existing strands of hate crime an aggravated offence. In the last 10 years, the number of youth centres in England fell from 917 to 427 and 4,500 youth workers have been lost*. We believe young people deserve better. What can you do? Write to Polly - let her know how important investment in our local youth services is, and how having access to places like Pie and our partner organisations across Thanet help transform young people’s lives. #NewGovernment #ManifestoPromises #First100Days *Unison. I recently attended a two-day workshop on the #IASC Youth Guidelines organized by #UNFPA, with support from the Youth Working Group. As an active member of the Adolescent Technical Core Team, I was grateful for the opportunity to participate, learn, and contribute to this important initiative. The workshop focused on familiarizing participants with the guidelines, key principles for programming with young people aged 10-24, and the humanitarian program cycle. We explored how to effectively integrate youth engagement into each of the five steps of the humanitarian program cycle across various sectors. Why is it crucial to engage youth and adolescents? - Investing in young people breaks the cycles of poverty, violence, and discrimination that can persist across generations. - The benefits of such investments are not only enjoyed by the present generation but also extend into adulthood and impact future generations. - Adolescence, particularly ages 9-14, represents a critical window for nurturing rapid learning and brain development. - Growing research indicates that brain development continues into the early 30s, highlighting the importance of supporting youth throughout this period. Engaging young people is not just a responsibility; it’s an opportunity to foster lasting change. Field data from various humanitarian organizations shows that 80% of men and 95% of women used thumb impressions for attendance, with 69% of these participants being youth. This high reliance on thumb impressions highlights a significant gap in literacy, challenging the current definition of literacy itself. This issue traces back to national priorities set since 1947, emphasizing the urgent need for a reevaluation of educational strategies to address these shortcomings effectively. #literacyinpakistan #sdgs #governmentofkpk #educationdepartmentkpk #educationforall #universaleducation

Our youth club in Glasgow has been supporting young people for over 20 years. It has been described as a life-line by many of the young people, like Allan, who have used it. Recently, our youth worker, Johnny, shared with the Glasgow Times how important youth clubs are in reaching teenagers who are struggling to find the right path. 🟣 9 in 10 of the public agree Government should increase youth work funding to make it accessible for every young person in Ireland. 🔵 That's why we're calling for a transformative €15m investment in youth work in next week's #Budget2025 ➡️ Read our Pre-budget Submission here: https://lnkd.in/eBM9R9h8
“Thousands of young people engage with youth work organisations every year, but no young person arrives with the same personal circumstance, needs or aspirations as the next. They also don’t all arrive through the same door. It is vital that youth work services are funded and resourced to ensure that every door possible stays open so that there is a pathway to support for any and every young person who needs it. The Government can do this if they make the right decision in the lead up to budget and invest €15 million in youth work services that are such a fundamental part in supporting and empowering future generations," Tanya W. speaks in response to research conducted by RED C Research ahead of our #EndChildPovertyWeek 🔹 𝑶𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒄 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆 that the government should increase funding for youth work to ensure it is accessible to all young people in their local community (89% agree – 53% strongly agree, 36% slightly agree) 🔹 𝑨𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒇 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒄 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒍𝒚 𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆 that youth work in the community is an effective way of helping children in disadvantaged areas to reach their full potential (88% agree – 49% strongly agree, 39% slightly agree) 🔍 Read our press release and the findings here: https://bit.ly/3BvCAxK #BreakTheCycle #EndChildPoverty #ChildrensBudget25 #YouthBudget Community Foundation Ireland The Fidelis Foundation Katharine Howard Foundation (KHF) National Youth Council of Ireland Foróige

Safe, stable housing is key to women's education and equity. It provides the security needed to focus on personal and professional growth. By ensuring safe, affordable housing, Aunt Leah's removes barriers to education, empowering women to reach their full potential. Our work is vital as we offer education, housing, and employment support to young women, promoting equity and equality as we remain focused on keeping these young families together. We know the harm caused to mothers at risk of losing custody of their children is painful, which is why stable housing is crucial for women and their children. #AuntLeahs #InternationalWomensDay

Great news National Youth Agency! Let’s develop a new National Play Strategy for England Department for Culture, Media and Sport & Department for Education There has been no national play strategy in England since 2008, which was developed by the last Labour government, together with Play England! https://lnkd.in/emUsjgzT We, and sector partners, stand ready to support government in addressing the decline in children's play by developing a new, cross departmental national play strategy. This strategy would ensure that play sufficiency legislation is brought into meaningful practice, and that England becomes a child-friendly country where all children have freedom to play at home, at school, in parks and public spaces. #PlaySufficiency #NationalPlayStrategy
We’re delighted that the Secretary of State has committed to delivering a National Youth Strategy. On 17 October, Lisa Nandy highlighted the troubling lack of national youth strategy and declared that the new government is ‘determined to grip this issue’. She also praised youth workers and described the youth funding decrease of 73 percent as ‘a source of national shame’. 🎥 Watch this important commitment to youth services being made by Lisa in the House of Commons here from 8.04 - 11.07: https://lnkd.in/e63B2ArG #NationalYouthStrategy #NYSAB #YouthWork #YouthSector

Outline of Work Plan for the EU Youth Strategy 2025-2027 out. Focus on preparting new EU Youth Strategy covering period from 2028 to 2036. No attemp to make next Youth Strategy more inclusive and reach out to the most vulnerable such as young people experiencing #homelessness. An important flaw of the current Youth Strategy is that it is too middle-class-centered. In spite some small efforts (mostly , young people suffering from severe forms of exclusion continue to be systematically overlooked. Hopefully the new Youth Commissioner Glenn Micallef recognises this flaw and is willing to do something about it. @FEANTSA is available to help. https://lnkd.in/e3VJFGfQ
