Penn State's @Silicon Carbide Innovation Alliance (SCIA) just secured a $600,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission, with matching funds pushing the total to over $1.4 million. This investment will drive a comprehensive workforce development initiative to address the critical shortage of skilled workers in the U.S. semiconductor industry. The initiative will focus on hands-on training, workshops, and paid internships, preparing Pennsylvanians for high-demand jobs as the industry faces a projected 2-3x increase in demand for silicon carbide by 2030. The SCIA, partnering with industry leaders like Onsemi and Thermo Fisher Scientific, aims to position Pennsylvania as a national semiconductor hub, leveraging Penn State's cutting-edge facilities. With the industry facing both layoffs and a talent shortage, this initiative is a strategic step to fill crucial roles, particularly as the CHIPS Act fuels the U.S. semiconductor resurgence. Thanks again to R&D - Research & Development World for the full article with more background and insights click the source link in the comments below 💡 🙏👇 FRIENDS: Join me at the International Semiconductor Executive Summits global events where we shape the future of our industry. Together, we'll strategize, network, and chart the roadmap for semiconductor innovation. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with fellow leaders and drive our field forward! #Semiconductors #WorkforceDevelopment #SiliconCarbide #Innovation #PennState #CHIPSAct #TechIndustry

Recruiting talent in #electronicsmanufacturing has never been more difficult, yet so much potential remains untapped. Many young people are eager to find fulfilling, skill-building work, but they’re not finding those opportunities within our industry. This disconnect is a roadblock to growth that we must address head-on. That’s why IPC’s latest white paper, "𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿: 𝗔 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 #𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆," is such a timely read. It outlines how talent pipelines and career pathways can provide a clear route for young professionals to grow from entry-level positions into technical roles. If we want to secure a skilled future #workforce, we have to focus on long-term career development now. #WorkforceDevelopment #ElectronicsManufacturing #NextGenTalent ➡️ https://bit.ly/3XUo7D8

DYK: There's a shortage of STEM knowledge and technical skills for advanced manufacturing jobs. Based on a study conducted by the Manufacturing Institute and Deloitte, by 2030, the manufacturing skills gap could lead to approximately 2.1 million unfilled jobs in the U.S. Workforce development initiatives will redefine manufacturing jobs, so we’ve partnered with the Austin Regional Manufacturers Association (ARMA) to help fulfill the need for manufacturing careers. In doing so, E3’s Tiger Team has created three goals: Create a plan to enroll 1,750 new students (including reskilling adults) into advanced manufacturing pathways in the 2024-25 academic year. Deliver over 10,000 new employees to Central Texas advanced manufacturing companies within five years. Build a new framework for expanding to additional critical workforce sectors and other regions across the state. The dream is to support students and reskilling adults interested in pursuing a career in advanced manufacturing in our region.
