NYC World Trade Center Visit Depending on your age, you probably have memories of where you were and what you were doing on the morning of 9/11/2001. However, those memories, as is only natural, have probably faded, unless maybe you were actually there that day. I had an opportunity to visit the 9/11 museum last weekend in NYC. And my memoires had in fact faded. The museum resurrected those memories and all that that event entailed: how individuals responded – whether first responders, people in the buildings, the passengers and crew who made sure flight 93 did not reach its target – the physical destruction and deaths, and so much more. It was so powerful. It is a remarkable remembrance of a terrible time and loss, and a testament to what can be the best (and worst) aspects of humankind. And sadly, the world continues to suffer from some of the worst nature of humankind. However, I strongly encourage everyone who has the opportunity to visit the 9/11 museum, but have not yet done so, to make the visit. Whether you have memories of that day or not. It is well worth it. https://lnkd.in/ef6qWmGA https://lnkd.in/ehYQx_yr (Scroll down for video - a short video w images and voices of the day) https://lnkd.in/euw2fJzN (History Channel reviews the days chronology and events)

👀 COMING TO SUPERRARE ✧ November 8th “The Space Between” Presented by: Hildabroom Management x Colonna Contemporary x SuperRare This curated release features the work of 11 artists exploring the delicate balance between individuality and collective impact, as they navigate the evolving digital art landscape. In this exhibition, the artists blur the boundaries between the digital and the tangible featuring works both digitally and physically native. Their work suggests that the relationship between these two mediums is not one of opposition but of mutual enhancement, creating a dialogue that enriches both types of their work. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of art innovation, these artists remind us of a fundamental truth: the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack. They stand as individuals, each with their own distinct voice, yet they move in unison toward a shared goal. In their hands, the future of art is both a collective endeavor and a personal journey—one where digital and physical realms are not separate worlds, but integrated experiences. https://lnkd.in/g9zMiZcQ

There's only ONE WEEK LEFT of CuriOdyssey's springtime exhibition, Puzzling Perceptions! Make sure to visit and bring your senses to life with exhibits like Sound Tubes, where you can make music!🎶 How do Sound Tubes work? Tapping the paddle on the end of these tubes sends a small burst of air pressure through the tube. The sudden burst of air pressure generates sound waves inside the tube. Long tubes create large sound waves with lower tones. Short tubes create smaller sound waves with higher tones. A pipe organ works similarly by sending pressurized air through different-length pipes. How to experiment: Tap the tubes with the attached paddles. Do the tubes make different sounds? Which tubes create higher tones? Which tubes create lower tones? Puzzling Perceptions will be open now until April 28, 2024! Extra shoutout to Molly, our Visitor Engagement Supervisor, for being our Vanna White for this video! #ScienceSaturday #SoundTubes #Science #ScienceMuseum #PuzzlingPerceptions #ASTC #CuriOdyssey #SanMateo #BayArea #California

📢 Speak up for museums now, before Congress returns in November! Congress has a lot of work to do to pass appropriations legislation for FY 2025. Earlier this summer, the House and Senate Appropriations Committees proposed differing amounts for agencies that are key museum funding sources—with some of them being proposed decreases in funding. The House and Senate will need to negotiate the differences in the two versions. It is critical for you to keep telling your legislators to support: 🔸 at least $55.5 million for IMLS' Office of Museum Services. Send a message now: https://lnkd.in/eY_BHrPT 🔸 at least $209 million each for the National Endowments for the Humanities and the Arts. Send a message now: https://lnkd.in/gunNg5YS Read the details in the latest Alliance Advocacy Alert: https://lnkd.in/gvzbaFhe

Since the confinement imposed to contain the spread of Covid-19, the Irish population seems to have turned in on itself or, at the very least, no longer frequent the cultural places it used to. This has been observed by the cultural players I've met, particularly in the world of art galleries, which don't get the same media coverage as music or literature. Nevertheless, everyone is trying to reactivate cultural life, following the example of the CAGA - Contemporary Art Galleries Association - whose role is to exhibit and promote their artists to the widest possible audience. And for the second year running, the CAGA is staging a major event in its galleries this November, inviting Dubliners to openings, exhibitions, workshops, documentary screenings and discussions with the artists over the course of 3 days - a veritable artistic marathon. One of the declared aims of this event is to bring back regular visitors, but also to introduce the galleries and contemporary art to non-experts of all ages - creative workshops have been organised in the galleries for children - and to show that the galleries are open to all, and that it is possible to walk through the doors to acquire a work as much as for the sheer pleasure of discovering them and the artists. Meeting the artist, having a direct relationship with the work, is an important and irreplaceable experience that demystifies a place and a practice that are no longer reserved for an elite. The act of buying a work is a non-compulsory step that depends on the intimate relationship we have with art in general and with the work and the artist in particular. This is what CAGA is trying to achieve by opening wide the doors of contemporary art galleries. Click on the link in my portfolio to see my visual report: https://lnkd.in/eEdddbWn

Input wanted: Research into arts residencies in Scotland Dr Anna McLauchlan is currently researching arts residencies in Scotland for a Scottish Society for Art History (SSAH) journal article. She is looking for edits and additions to this google doc, containing organisations and sites in Scotland that routinely host residencies (or did host them in the past): https://lnkd.in/ed3n3KfR She is interested in the breadth of organisations that routinely host residencies (or did so in the past). Categorisation can be tricky, so details about all residency initiative are welcomed. Your input will be acknowledged in any published work – you can add your contact details to the spreadsheet in the ‘source (your name)’ and ‘source contact’ columns OR email anna.mclauchlan@strath.ac.uk with your details. The outcomes of this broader research can be requested by emailing anna.mclauchlan@strath.ac.uk.

WHAT IS A MEMORY CAFE? A Memory Café is a welcoming place for people with forgetfulness or other changes in their thinking. Memory cafés meet at a variety of places, including coffeehouses, museums, or community organizations. Each memory café is different. Some cafés invite guest artists, some offer education about memory changes. And some are just for relaxing and chatting. But, all cafés share one goal — to help guests feel comfortable and to know that they are not alone. Cafés are a place to talk with others who understand what you are going through. You can forget about your limitations and instead focus on your strengths. - Boston.gov To view the Massachusetts memory cafe directory, please click here https://buff.ly/3WnYLhL
