Gen Z are scammed online more than their boomer grandparents.
You'd think these "digital natives" would know better.
But nope. Hackers and scammers are stealing their money and identities left and right.
It's crazy. Gen Z falls for 3 times more phishing scams than boomers. Twice as many have had their social media hacked.
And the average scam victim under 20 lost $210 million last year.
Why is this happening? Well, Gen Z uses technology more than anyone.
More devices, more apps, more online. More ways to get scammed.
They also choose convenience over safety. They want apps to be fast and easy, not secure.
Who can blame them? But it leaves them exposed.
Schools try to teach cybersecurity. But it doesn't connect. I wrote a post on the same here (https://lnkd.in/g55NAFY5)
The threats feel abstract, not real like their actual experiences online.
We must help Gen Z understand why scams happen and who's behind them. Then only they can protect themselves.
See, It's not their fault. The apps too could do more to keep users safe.
Privacy and security should be the default, not an option. Companies have a responsibility here too.
But in the meantime, we must educate our kids. Teach them to be super vigilant.
There are simple steps we can google for them. They can take those steps to stay safer online.
This isn't about limiting their experience but enriching it.
Gen Z deserves a vibrant digital life without fear. Let's give it to them.
