As Women's History Month comes to an end, let's not forget the ongoing struggles faced by women and marginalized groups. Labels like "sensitive," "bossy," and "lacking executive presence" continue to burden women in society. Tokenism is not the solution—it's just a check-box exercise to make the privileged feel better. Recognizing privilege and the problem is a good start, but it's not enough. True equality requires us to confront our unconscious biases. To make progress we must become allies in the fight for justice, for all the marginalized. Each of us has a role to play in driving society forward. People ask why I founded a whole nonprofit to cater to the needs of Black women domestic violence survivors. Why not all survivors? Why not all women? Why not Black women and men? Because the sad facts are: 1. There are plenty of mainstream direct services that treat most survivors well 2. The numbers of women versus men being preyed upon in DV are higher 3. The history of the perception of Black women causes unsafe environments in the direct services I mentioned in item #1 for Black women 4. Black women either don't know about the services in #1 or won't go because they don't feel safe in those environments 5. 51.3% of Black femicides are due to DV That's why the spaces we curate to empower, comfort, and provide levels of community and healing for Black women are for them alone. They - we - truly need those spaces. Sunday is 2 days away, and we still have a few more tickets left to empower, comfort, and provide community and healing for YOU or Black women YOU know. Why Must Women Always Ask? Why is it that women often have to fight for what should be given without question? At home, if a woman needs something, she’s expected to ask, sometimes even plead, to get it. Whether it’s for a new opportunity, support, or even basic respect, it often feels like nothing comes without a struggle. And now, even justice requires asking—protesting, striking, demanding—just to get what is rightfully deserved. It’s heartbreaking that in a society where independence is celebrated, women still have to fight for their rights, their safety, and their dignity. Why should women have to constantly ask for what should be freely given? Isn’t it time we changed this narrative? Let’s work towards a future where women don’t have to ask for respect, opportunity, or justice—where it’s simply given, as it should be. #WomensRights #Equality #JusticeForWomen #Empowerment #TrueFreedom
