Electric Truck Charging: How Many Charging Stations Does Europe Need? #Decarbonization of road freight is a key policy objective in the European Union (EU). As such, the transport sector finds itself under mounting pressure to transition towards more sustainable practices. Within this sector, the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), such as battery electric trucks (BETs), represents a major step toward achieving cleaner and more efficient logistics operations. However, the transition to electric trucking faces significant infrastructure gaps. What is being done to accelerate the rollout of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) across Europe? https://lnkd.in/ebG5yRkX

The electric bus market is EXPLODING. As of the latest research study by Persistence Market Research Pvt. Ltd., the global electric bus market witnessed a valuation of approximately USD 20.31 billion in 2022, with a projected Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 11.95%. The market is anticipated to reach a remarkable USD 50.14 billion by the year 2030. New Flyer of America was recently awarded two contracts by the New York City Transit Authority. These contracts order 429 of New Flyer’s cutting-edge Xcelsior battery-electric buses. The contracts include an option for NYCT to buy up to 1,661 additional New Flyer electric buses over the next five years. According to Persistence Market Research: https://lnkd.in/dVYPEtPb This exponential growth is attributed to the escalating global electric bus market emphasis on fostering electric mass transit solutions, driven primarily by governmental support aimed at promoting the use of electric vehicles. The Middle East and Africa are poised to emerge as leading regions in the global market during the forecast period, propelled by government initiatives promoting electric mass transit vehicles in the region. The presence of a high concentration of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in these regions, coupled with the increasing production of electric buses, is projected to bolster the growth of the electric bus market. Growing Environmental Awareness: Rising environmental consciousness and concerns about air quality are compelling cities and transportation authorities to transition from traditional diesel buses to electric alternatives, reducing emissions and environmental impact. Volvo Buses is a subsidiary of the Swedish automotive giant Volvo Group. They are known for manufacturing a wide range of buses. Zhongtong Bus & Holding Co., Ltd is a Chinese company specializing in the production of buses and commercial vehicles. Irizar e-mobility is a Spanish manufacturer of buses and coaches, including electric buses. After its bankruptcy, Proterra Inc's battery business was purchased by Volvo. Phoenix Motorcars completed its acquisition of the Proterra's Transit business. Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL) is a British bus and coach manufacturer. Yutong is a Chinese company and one of the world's largest bus manufacturers. BYD has significant numbers of electric buses already deployed in the US, and is a global leader in buses and EVs. A few months ago our company won tender in Rome for delivery of 110 mild hybrid buses. In last days we have won order for the delivery of 244 CNG buses for the ATAC SpA public transport operator in Rome. This is one of the largest contracts in our company's history. In recent months, Solaris has presented the most advantageous offer in the tender for the supply of 110 articulated mild hybrid vehicles. The tender procedure was conducted by the Gubielo Spa purchasing group for the carrier ATAC Roma. The offer of Solaris Urbino 18 equipped with the latest generation mild hybrid systems has received the highest rating and, as a result of winning the proceedings, in 2024 we will deliver 110 new hybrid vehicles to the streets of Rome. In last days, Gubielo Spa and ATAC Roma also placed an order for buses powered by compressed natural gas, known as a CNG (compressed natural gas) in the industry. And here the offer of our company with a twelve-meter version of Urbino CNG turned out to be the most advantageous. As a result, 244 Solaris Urbino 12 CNG buses powered by natural gas will also be delivered to the Italian capital city in 2024 and 2025. What's more, the order for gas carriers assumes the so-called option, i.e. the possibility of increasing the number of vehicles by another 78 units. The contracting authority may decide on this in the following months. In addition to the delivery of the above-mentioned buses, we will also service them for the next 10 years. The total value of the purchased vehicles and all additional services, assuming that the contracting authority uses all options, will therefore amount up to EUR 200 million. The ordered buses will not be the first Solaris vehicles in Rome. In the years 2003-2004 we delivered 30 trolleybuses to ATAC. In addition, operators from Lazio region use more than 700 Solaris InterUrbino intercity vehicles for regional transport in the suburbs of Rome. In total, we have delivered over 1800 vehicles to Italy, which is one of the company's key markets. #sustainable #publictransport

Analysis of Port of Los Angeles drayage (port move) truck journeys by RMI and Mission Possible Partnership makes the case for alternative charging options for #HDEV drivers. Three primary reasons are highlighted in this study: ⏱Distributed charging options alleviates congestion at ports, which in-turn reduces operational down time. ⚡Concentrated charger deployment eventually means grid bottlenecks that come with logistical and financial impacts. Spreading the load mitigates this risk. 🚚 Chargers away from restricted port locations can be accessed by a broader range of users, accelerating electrification for other fleet vehicles. More here: https://lnkd.in/eDdbDksQ Read the full piece for more details on each of these benefits. #fleets #fleetelectrification #evcharging

The elephant in the room is very much decarbonisation. In an environment where cost to serve is under more and more pressure, as suppliers look to offset inflationary costs and minimise what they have to pass on to customers, decarbonising logistics is still seen by as a 'nice to focus on' rather than a 'need to focus on'. Many are still living in hope of the magic solution that will make this elephant vanish or are just hoping that it will go away. But this elephant needs tackling and will require many bites before it is gone. The quicker we start to address and start to invest in decarbonisation the easier each bite will be for customers and ultimately consumers to swallow. Attending the decarbonising logistics event on 6th Nov would be an excellent first bite to make. Link is in article below.
