*Dissonance* is a mismatch between values and actions. When organisational purpose and priorities don't align to behaviour in the operational environment, things feel off and we all get the "ick". Take for example, Tourism NSW announcing a "shake up of its strategy" to showcase the city's "first light culture of morning activities" on the week it plunged morning exercisers back into winter darkness with "daylight savings". As someone who is on the water at 0530 most mornings, I can assure you the NSW is not celebrating the first light culture of morning activities, rather making it harder for those who do. Equally, if your organisational purpose and priorities are mismatched to the way you treat your operating environment, your stakeholders "get the ick". Sustainability isn't about corporate virtue signalling. It's about matching your organisational purpose to the operating environment now, and for the future. If you'd like to learn more about how to do this, let's have a chat. #tourism #tourismnsw #nswtourism #firstlight #sustainability

Supporting local communities is a key pillar of Rethinking Travel. Our collaboration with a local project in Spiti to help construct solar rooms fostered sustainable living and resilience for a community we visit on our trips. Rethinking Travel in Spiti In the harsh environments of Spiti, where winter temperatures can drop below -30°C, solar rooms harnessed sunlight to provide essential warmth. These rooms were a lifeline, enabling sustainable living, reducing energy costs, and ensuring survival amidst the unforgiving cold. Supporting Sustainable Living Our initiative directly benefited families from Kibber village. How It Worked: • Conversion: An existing room was converted. • Techniques: Widening windows, attaching a greenhouse structure, insulating walls. • Effect: Maintained inside temperatures at around 10°C, even when outside it was -25°C, without burning wood or fuel. Impact: Each solar room benefits one family but also served neighbors for activities like handicrafts and studying. When you travel with us, a part of it goes to creating a positive impact, it went to Rethink Travel! . . . . #SustainableTravel #CommunitySupport #RethinkingTravel #EcoFriendly #TravelWithPurpose #SolarEnergy #SpitiValley #ResponsibleTourism #TravelForGood #PositiveImpact #GreenTravel #TravelCommunity #UnWildPlanet #TravelSustainably #SupportLocalCommunities

Today we outline the actions conducted last year across our hotels and resorts through Wave of Change - our approach to sustainability. Our commitment to responsible tourism leads our business on a transformative journey. But the successful implementation of our vision requires a 360-degree approach, embedding sustainability within every process. I extend my thanks to the sustainability team and those responsible for sustainability across Iberostar Group. There is so much to be proud of, but it's the day-to-day behavior changes of everyone that give me the most joy - the teams that are dedicated to rethinking their approach to lower our impact. The journey is long and not void of challenges. Finding solutions requires us to think innovatively and collaborate. For instance, implementing Nature-Based Solutions like restoring coral reefs or mangroves to mitigate hurricane impact. Such collaborations can aid in developing proactive solutions, partnering with local governments can address major infrastructure challenges, and involving local communities can further holistic tourism. Through collective action we aim to inspire positive change, to create a future where people and the environment flourish. Discover the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dEFMAasx #ResponsibleTourism
