Despite the climate impacts we all face, only 3% of all philanthropy goes to the environment 💸 Here’s why non-profit EarthShare believes we should all care about investing in the environment: 💚 When we invest in our environment, we're investing in our communities, health, and ourselves. Our environment impacts every aspect of our lives and well-being. 🌻 Environmental issues are deeply interconnected. Even local environmental initiatives create ripple effects that benefit communities in areas like health, food security, climate resilience, and more. 🌳 Investing in forest restoration now can have a huge payoff. In 20 years, new-growth forests could absorb enough carbon to offset 1/3 of emissions needed to avoid climate catastrophe. If you want to support EarthShare's vital work towards the United Nations #30x30 target of protecting 30% of lands and waters by 2030, donate here ⬇️ https://bit.ly/3W8G9T4 #climatechange #environmentalism

Did you know 69% of all UK environmental funding is controlled by just 10 foundations, and nearly 45% goes to just 25 organisations? Our agility, in-depth local ecosystem knowledge and deep connection with local community experts & volunteers are what make local charities, like us, and our grassroots biodiversity, climate, rewilding and social benefit projects, unique and so capable of delivering lasting, impactful change. . So how you can help? - Diversify your giving: Support grassroots and community-based charities alongside the bigger names. - Champion funding equity: Advocate for fairer distribution of resources to maximise impact. Are you a funder, philanthropist, or business looking to shape your 2025 ESG strategy or invest in meaningful change? Let’s talk. Together, we can close the funding gap, tackle marine & coastal environment pollution, protect at-risk species and better understand & improve water quality in The Solent. Thank you to the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) Environmental Funders Network for their research and work raising awareness. #TheSolent #Climate #Rewilding #Biodiversity #Charity #Environment #ESG

I have an important request for you. This week is Giving Tuesday, an annual tradition of generosity when people like you and me do our part to support the community organizations working tirelessly towards a better world. I'd like to introduce you to one that's close to my heart: the Canadian Environmental Network (RCEN). This non-partisan organization helps small non-profits and community groups move Canadian environmental policy in the right direction, by bringing them together and giving them a voice that might otherwise get overlooked. RCEN has been instrumental in key environmental laws like the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, the Fisheries Act, and the Impact Assessment Act. By working together, sharing resources and information, and building connections, RCEN's members turn their limited budgets into a much bigger impact than they could hope to have on their own. "United we stand, divided we fall" and all that. I've been on the board for a decade and I'm extremely proud of the resilience of this organization, which survived and rebuilt after federal funding for environmental causes was gutted 13 years ago. BUT HERE'S THE THING: while this work is crucial, it isn't the kind of "sexy" project that foundations and government departments love to fund. The boost that RCEN's member groups get from networking helps amplify the impact of every dollar they receive from donors or grants. The Government of Canada (and by extension, everyone) benefits from high-quality expertise that our members provide for free. Networks are amazing for efficient use of taxpayer and donor funds, but they're not a shiny new thing that a foundation can brag about in their annual report. That means it's REALLY hard to fund this work in the current granting environment. SO HERE'S MY ASK: this Giving Tuesday, please consider a donation to RCEN at https://www.rcen.ca/donate. You benefit from their work every day, in invisible but profound ways. Let's keep it going. And if you're interested in growing your own network (as a non-profit organization or an individual), consider becoming an RCEN member in 2025. You'll get access to: caucuses and working groups made up of some of the smartest, most well-informed folks in Canada's environmental community; curated information about opportunities to advance your favourite causes; opportunities to contribute to consultations; and a lot more. One more thing: even if RCEN isn't the cause you choose to support this year, please contribute to a group in your community if you're able to do so. Non-profits and community groups hold our society together, and they depend on all of us to make that work possible.

We can’t get over the fact that only 2% of global philanthropy goes to climate causes. And for carbon removal? Just 2% of that. It’s a huge missed opportunity for all those hoping to tackle the climate crisis. As we gear up for Climate Week NYC, it’s a good time to talk about how philanthropy isn’t just a nice-to-have in the climate fight—it’s critical. The global philanthropic market is approaching $1 trillion. Imagine what we could do if more of that went into carbon removal. https://lnkd.in/g_8dTWza

2% is still an absurd figure to me. Still just as shocking now as it was the first time I heard it. Great articulation of the challenge and potential solutions. There are many areas which are just as deserving, certainly, such as education and health, but even so. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason is due to the perspectives shown - philanthropy can provide better education, it can provide cures to deadly diseases, and it can avoid catastrophic climate change? There has to be a better and more positive framing. Each sector - government, philanthropy, and industry - has a large role to play in the climate and more specifically greenhouse gas removal space.

The Best Time to Plant a Tree The phrase "The best time to plant a tree" encapsulates the timeless wisdom that highlights the importance of taking action today for a better tomorrow. When to Plant a Tree? The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now. This old proverb emphasizes the urgency of taking action today. The act of planting a tree is a commitment to future generations, a promise of a greener, healthier planet. Organizations, governments, and individuals worldwide are recognizing the importance of tree planting initiatives. From urban reforestation projects to rural community efforts, there are countless opportunities to get involved. Volunteering, donating, or simply spreading awareness can contribute to these efforts. Planting a tree is a simple yet powerful act that can create a ripple effect, benefiting the environment, economy, and society. The best time to plant a tree is indeed now. Let us take this small step together for a greener, more sustainable future. Transforming Our Future with ESG 🌱 Today at Spencer Ogden, as we acknowledge Global Turtle Day 🐢, we're reminded of the delicate balance within our ecosystems and how our actions reverberate through the environment. #GlobalTurtleDay isn't just about these ancient mariners; it's a call to step up our ESG objectives. Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aren't just buzzwords—they're the pillars guiding us towards a sustainable future. As we embark on this journey, we've committed to three core objectives: 1. Minimise our Carbon Footprint 🌍 - We're reducing energy usage and waste in every office, reminding us that small changes aggregate into significant impacts. 2. Empower Communities 🤝 - Through local partnerships and volunteering, we're not just fostering change; we're part of it. 3. Uphold Transparency ✨ - We believe in the power of openness, providing clear ESG metrics and progress reports to all stakeholders. This Global Turtle Day, let's channel the steadfast perseverance of turtles as we strive to create a greener, more equitable world. Every step we take echoes through our global community and across our shared home. I personally support the Sayulita Turtle Camp in Mexico. A local charity supporting the preservation of Olive Ridley Turtles. I have included their donation link if you want to join me in supporting them. What are your ideas for driving ESG initiatives forward? Drop a comment below! 🌟 #ESG #Sustainability #FutureIsNow
