Did you know that millions of companion animals may be in harms way each year? When there is violence in a home, no one is safe. This is why the concept for the SAF-T Program in housing pets onsite at domestic violence shelters was created more than 20 years ago. With over 325 shelters in 46 states and 6 countries, more are needed. Want to see if your community has a SAF-T Shelter? The best way to help cats and other animals in shelters is to understand how local shelters operate--and when it's time to push for lifesaving change. Alley Cat Allies advocates for full shelter transparency. Shelters making meaningful data accessible allows the public to hold them accountable for the lives of animals in their care. Lack of responsibility is only one aspect that plays into these situations. There are other factors that can also play into it such as having to choose to rent from a landlord that doesn't accept pets or certain types of pets or certain sizes of pets, or choosing to be homeless. Another issue is the continual breeding & selling of animals. There is also a lack of understanding of what it takes to care for animal - cost, lifespan, etc. We don't fully know the situation in all of these instances. #animalwelfare #animalshelters #humanesocieties #animalbreeding #PetwellCreativeEnterprises #TheAnimalFiles
WHERE HAS HUMANITY GONE? Dogs do not deserve to be abandoned in a scary, noisy and dangerous environment where they end up stuck in a cage until they deteriorate and are eventually killed through no fault of their own, because shelters are full. If you want to save a dogs life, keep yours!

Here is the sad reality of dog shelters; they need to euthanize for space. It's a sad fact that people need to understand. Why are we blaming shelters? WE are the one's to blame! If they have room for 100 dogs, and they have 150, what do you actually think is going to be the solution? The only immediate solution is that you build them a larger facility. Shelters would not be necessary, except for us. **the irresponsible owners dumping their dogs **backyard breeders **people that don't spay and neuter their animals. **everyone but the shelter So, either build them a larger building, or go and spend time with these dogs. Volunteer, or you are part of the problem.
