Grading and how it works, Ever heard of somebody referring to an old building being a “Grade-A building”? Here’s a simplified rundown of what it all means, 🔸 Grade A -Buildings of special architectural or historic interest which are outstanding examples of a particular period, style or building type. 🔸 Grade B - Buildings of special architectural or historic interest which are major examples of a particular period, style or building type. 🔸Grade C - Buildings of local importance, lesser examples of any period, style, or building type, as originally constructed or altered. New world's tallest timber skyscraper planned for the USA. The timber tower will consist of 55 floors, making it the tallest mass timber skyscraper in the world. This remarkably ambitious proposal in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, looks set to take timber to new heights. Designed by MGA | Michael Green Architecture, a leader in modern timber construction, this project will become the world's tallest timber skyscraper once complete. While the exact height of the skyscraper is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to surpass the current tallest all-timber building, the 85.4 meters (280 ft) Mjøstårnet in Norway. Given the height, it's likely that some concrete reinforcement will be incorporated for stability. Many people get concerned at the thought of a wooden skyscraper, imagining it will be some sort of tinderbox that will ignite with a misplaced cigarette or kitchen fire. However, modern mass timber (such as glulam and cross-laminated timber) isn't like traditional lumber. Instead, it's manufactured in factories and consists of many layers of wood glued together to form a much stronger wooden beam that can even perform better in fire than steel due to the way it chars rather than fully igniting. Barn style houses are very popular with UK self builders. Planning is an important element of the trend. Especially for a rural setting as the barn fits in well with the existing building stock. For architects the variety and the way barns have evolved to include outbuildings provides a perfect blank sheet. Many people want open plan barn living. They do not want to maintain very old agricultural buildings adapted for housing. Many modern barns are not suitable for conversion, they are industrial buildings needed to support modern farming.
