When leaders lying has become the accepted norm. When it is being fostered through various outlets for individual and corporate gain, we are in the danger zone. Lying has become accepted a means to recapture power. It is a tool of individual survival for politicians decimating what is left of the Republican Party. When individual's follow and gain value through leadership that lies, their self value is threatened by the truth. This cultivates, hate and violence.

The question before all of us is this ? Who will fight for democracy? Who still believes integrity - character counts- in leaders? Will the field of DEI become history because those of us in leadership and organizational development sat quiet- will we fight? Will courage and values be strong enough in all of us who have worked our entire careers to develop organizations with inspiring leaders rooted in intergrity fight fear, greed and retribution? What will we do each day to fight for our democracy and values?

Dawna Jones has just released her latest #substack and I am really grateful that she has offered such a valuable and comprehensive overview of our conversation (see at foot of this post for full convo). “Expect to hear: - the importance of intuitive awareness in decision-making, both for himself and others. - the significance of staying aligned with one's sense of purpose to avoid being pulled in multiple directions. - moving from seeking validation to focusing on what makes sense in the moment. - bringing vulnerability and an authentic self into corporate spaces, initiating conversations on sensitive topics like diversity, inclusion, and social justice. the transformation of leadership, advocating for a shift from traditional command and control structures to self-organizing and vulnerability-centered leadership. - the challenges faced in traditional hierarchical organizations, where fear of loss of power and privilege inhibits progress toward more inclusive and just practices. - tangible examples of how he introduced self-managed structures and vulnerability into his team, leading to significant business growth. - a personal experience of self-imposed stress and the importance of taking time to allow the mind to settle. - the practice of deep breathing and the ability to observe life from a detached perspective, facilitating more intentional responses to situations” Dawna is doing such important work, serving leaders and corporations with enhancing and developing their #vulnerability and #emotionalhealth muscles. An invitation to my network to check out our conversation and Dawna’s wider work.

💡 Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's #TedTalk on the danger of a single story, of default assumptions and one-dimensional impressions is an oldie, but oh so goodie, incredibly relevant, true and inspiring. She helped us examine our own #biases and adopt a "#WholeStoryMindset" to truly grasp those around us in their complexity, what drives them, how they learn and grow. If we, as leaders, want to grow, we need to understand our people. 👩🎓 I am excited to be part of IOM - UN Migration's 2024 cohort for the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC)'s #UNEmergingLeaders programme. Adichie's talk was among our first week assignments and I hope it will set the tone for what's to come. 🙌 Among my key concerns is how we can embrace inclusive, #collaborativeleadership in our intergenerational, international and dynamic workplace - I am curious to learn from my peers at IOM - UN Migration, such as Sarah Harris, Elena Imberti, Andrea Ortiz, and other UN Agencies how to cultivate a #wholestorymindset in our teams and beyond, to ensure our work can have the positive #impact it is supposed to have. #Leadership is as easy to call for as it is difficult to define, teach and practice.

https://lnkd.in/ghRm9EgM Leading Beyond the Orange Shirt: The Principal’s Role in True Reconciliation As school leaders, principals hold the power to either reinforce the status quo or champion meaningful change in education. In this episode, our guest is Niigaan Sinclair, an Anishinaabe writer, editor, activist and Head of the Department of Native Studies at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Niigaan leads the conversation on how principals can be true advocates for Indigenous education and reconciliation. There are real challenges, tough decisions, and bold moves principals must make to support reconciliation efforts, even when it means facing resistance or risking their own career progression.Stepping beyond symbolic gestures with even the smallest act can lead to transformative actions that challenge systemic barriers, create inclusive environments, and make a lasting impact on students and communities alike.
