Hey everyone, I'm Joe Rahimzadeh, Enterprise Account Executive at Mission Cloud and a certified AWS re:Invent veteran! 👋 With 8 re:Invents under my belt, I'm taking over Mission's LinkedIn today to share a little more about me, some insider tips, fun activities, and what I'm most excited about for this year's event. But before we dive in, let me share a little about who I am. My path into technology and sales was indirect, maybe even meandering. In college I earned a degree in Biology and before I started in this industry, I was doing molecular genetics research. First at the VA Medical Center in San Diego, and then Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NYC. During my time at Einstein, I co-authored a research paper that would go on to be published in the Journal of Human Molecular Genetics! When I'm not working, I'm at home enjoying time with my wife (Cathy) and my 2 year old (Max). Now, on to answering a few questions to get you ready for re:Invent 2024! 🚀 What's your top tip for first-time re:Invent attendees? - re:Invent can be whatever you want it to be, but for first time attendees, it can get overwhelming. There are so many breakout sessions, partner booths, lunches, dinners, and events that you can get caught up and realize the week has flown by. I recommend that you think deeply about what you want to get out of the conference and seek out that content and those conversations. Plan your day and try to maximize value (and don't forget to build in time to rest!). 📍 What's your go-to spot in Vegas during re:Invent week? - If you can find the time, you have to go to T-Mobile arena for a Vegas Golden Knights hockey game (Go Knights Go!). It's the best show in Vegas and is a great place to spend time with clients or colleagues. They happen to have a home game on Dec 3rd! 🤩 What are you most excited about for this year’s re:Invent? - I have to give two answers. I've always loved meeting with my customers during the conference or over dinner and talking about all the ways we can use the newly announced services and features to change the way they do business. It's really exciting to come up with ideas on how we can collaborate with our customers on AWS! Then there's the Mission IGNITE party, which is THE event of the conference. Having now been to the SaaStr conference for the third year in a row, I was worried I’d be seeing so much more of the same and considered skipping it for next year to prioritize my time only in conferences that focus on my ICP and could bring more “direct value”. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the challenges for SaaS founders consistently change year on year depending on current market. Priorities shift, so there is ALWAYS something new to learn and apply. Artificial Intelligence is obviously making an appearance in most conversations, but with a slight focus on the overpromising and underdelivering trap. I also saw lots of chats of customer centric approaches for startups in all stages of growth - with customer retention being prioritized over customer acquisition, which is quite a breath of fresh air from the frenzy of “I’ll get new customers whatever it takes” vibe of the earlier 2020s years. Cheers to SaaStr for another incredible event with amazing speakers and great networking opportunities with other founders facing similar hardships! Safe to say I’ll be coming back for more next year 🚀.

In Opinion | It was easy to count the number of floors at the perfectly suited Liberty Science Center that were used Tuesday during the 14th annual BioPartnering Conference: three. The same is true for counting the number of attendees at the BioNJ-run event — and where they were from: approximately 650 from 22 states and nine countries. And the number of prefunding and early-stage companies making pitches: 90 — or about 20% higher than the year before. Here’s what is impossible to quantify: the number of substantial conversations between founders, investors, top life science companies and academic leaders that could lead to breakthrough partnerships that help enhance the already-strong sector in the state. That’s what made the BioPartnering Conference a master class in networking.

Woohoo! #LSIUSA24 is in the books. Another fantastic event that I want to reflect on: 1. The keynote from Dr. Catherine Mohr was fantastic. Post-event I’ve listened to her keynote twice now. Her focus on using data to identify wicked problems was fascinating. Her time spent speaking to the importance of exponentially scaling skill-based training was great too. If you haven't already, give her address a listen and think about the impact that tackling these types of wicked problems will yield. 2. This year, I experienced the event from the perspective of a service provider. It was great getting to talk with future market intel customers about the diverse ways in which we can further support the medtech ecosystem beyond LSI’s partnering events. Kudos to all the service providers out there. I've a newfound appreciation for what you do. When the focus of the event is cultivating strategic partnerships and connecting with potential investors, you’re offering solutions that enhance the fruitfulness of those conversations around raising capital and building innovative companies. I appreciate Zach Labrecque’s leadership and adaptability when it came to the 25+ meetings we tackled throughout the event. I loved the LSI Market Intelligence business pod. The space created a lot of organic opportunities to evangelize because so many people thought that the “Reserved” sign must have been for them. 😉 3. Shout out to the LSI bizdev team. They did an incredible job identifying new innovators and bringing them to the LSI stage. As the person responsible for categorizing and briefly describing the 300+ presenters at this event, I was pleasantly surprised to learn about so many companies that I’ve never heard of. I also want to congratulate Scott Pantel, Henry Peck and the entire events team for putting on an incredible meeting. As always, great to see so many familiar faces and meet new ones. Hope to do it again very soon. P.S. Shoutout to the real ones who were grinding it at the gym at 5AM every day. Bhavesh Barot, Karen Cross, and others. It’s great to see people making time amidst everything going on at the event to get a good pump session going. 💪
