𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐢𝐜𝐤? If you're a leader, you will know that every team member is unique. You can't use a 1-size-fits-all style. There are 4 broad ways to motivate your team members: a. WHY - This person needs to 'buy-in' to the reason behind the goal. b. WHO - This person feels the need to be doing good for others. c. WHEN - This person tends to procrastinate - need to set a deadline. d. HOW - This person needs a clear guide on what to do next. For most of us, we will be inspired to take action on our goals based on 1 or 2 of the above. Which 1 or 2 will get you moving? Think balance is just for acrobats? It's the secret sauce in effective leadership, especially when it comes to mixing positive and negative reinforcement. Get it wrong, and you're just another voice in the noise. Get it right, and you're leading a team of motivated, high-performing individuals. The art of immediate correction following undesired behavior is not about reprimanding your staff. It's about recalibration. It's timely, specific, and, most importantly, constructive. But finding the balance is vital. If your leadership style is heavy on criticism, even if it's well-intentioned and immediate, you risk demotivating your team. It's like constantly being told what not to do without knowing what *to* do. Combine immediate correction with immediate recognition. Caught someone doing something right? Say it. Out loud. Right then and there. It's about reinforcing the behaviors you want to see, making the positive actions as visible as the corrections.

When I took the Clifton Strengths test, I was surprised to discover the domains a majority of my strengths lay in. The four leadership domains: 1️⃣ EXECUTING - helps you make things happen 2️⃣ RELATIONSHIP BUILDING - help you build strong relationships that hold a team together 3️⃣ INFLUENCING - help you take charge, speak up, and make sure others are heard 4️⃣ STRATEGIC THINKING - help you absorb and analyze information that informs better decisions. 6 out of the top 10 of my strengths were in Relationship Building, a surprise to me given how much of an introvert I am. The remaining 4 were split between Executing and Strategic Thinking. This has given me a lot to reflect back on and decided where I want my career path to take me. Take a moment to reflect on your strengths and share your findings

When managing your team, ask yourself: "How would I motivate them if they were my friends?". I call it 'The Empathy Effect'. I know, it's just a workplace, not a family, and I agree with that. That doesn't mean you can't treat people like people. When leading with empathy, you will: - Inspire trust and loyalty - Build deeper connections with your team - Encourage open and honest communication - Foster a supportive and collaborative environment Remember, it’s not just about what you achieve, it’s about how you lead your team to achievement. PS: Would your team describe you as an empathetic leader?

Transitioning into a new team, as a new leader is a leap of faith. Managers are often promoted based on their contributions as an individual contributor, not as a people leader which is a different skill set. Check out a video testimonial from a manager who successfully made the leap!

Don’t just manage a team, build a team! A team, You can grow with You can innovate with You can strategize with You can break barriers with You can genuinely connect with So, Build a quality team first Before you chase the metrics, productivity, efficiency, and revenue. Focus on the individuals who make your team. No, not just what they bring to the table professionally, but who they are as people. That's where quality starts! Quality comes with time Trust isn't built in a day. Neither is a quality team. Time gives way to open dialogues around strategy, vision, and, yes, personal lives too. Make that time, invest it back into the team, and see how it pays you back in commitment and innovation. When your team knows you care about them as people, not just as cogs in a wheel. That’s when the magic happens! #leadership #teammanagement
