🌟 More transparency on the CO2 footprint in polymer processing: #Meraxis & partners make it possible. Together with the INC Innovation Center, Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionstechnologie IPT, REHAU and TERDEX, the Digital & Disruptive Business Team of Meraxis Services GmbH in Germany is working on a tool for a transparent and optimized CO2 footprint in polymer processing. The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions thanks to an optimized material mix and improved processes. How? By measuring consumption data, such as the energy used directly in polymer processing, and combining it with emission data and economic factors such as material and electricity costs. At last week’s CO2ptiMat milestone meeting in Berlin, we discussed questions like identifying the barriers to collecting data to calculate the total CO2 footprint of a finished polymer product and presented initial project results. For example, it appears to be particularly challenging for small- and medium-sized companies to efficiently integrate data into their production processes and use it to make decisions. Iondrive (ASX:ION) CEO Ebbe Dommisse joins Jonathan Jackson in the Proactive studio to discuss the successful completion of large-scale bench trials at the University of Adelaide, marking a significant milestone for its deep-eutectic solvent (DES) #BatteryRecycling technology. These trials confirmed the robustness and economic potential of the technology, with positive results indicating high metal recoveries and minimal solvent losses. The trials involved scaling up from 120mg to 120g of black mass, a powdered mixture containing #CriticalMinerals like #lithium, #cobalt, #nickel and #manganese. Iondrive's DES process uses benign, biodegradable organic solvents in a non-toxic, closed-loop system, avoiding the environmental issues of traditional methods like pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes.
