"Instead, it’s critical for us all to start from a place that imagines what’s possible for humans in the age of A.I. When you do that, you find yourself focusing quickly on people skills that allow us to collaborate and innovate in ways technology can amplify but never replace. And you find yourself — whatever the role or career stage you’re in — with agency to better manage this moment of historic change." Key takeaway: "Today the knowledge economy is giving way to a relationship economy, in which people skills and social abilities are going to become even more core to success than ever before." “In a time of drastic change it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.” ― Eric Hoffer, Reflections on the Human Condition #agency, #communication, #collaboration, #relationshipeconomy, #knowledgeeconomy, #peopleskills Aneesh Raman Maria Flynn Minouche Shafik

The A.I. Economy Makes Our Humanity More Important Than Ever https://lnkd.in/eMXdifqG From Maria Flynn: "Over 70 percent of executives at LinkedIn last year said soft skills were more important to their organizations than highly technical A.I. skills. And a recent Jobs for the Future survey found that 78 percent of the 10 top-employing occupations classify uniquely human skills and tasks as “important” or “very important.” These are skills like building interpersonal relationships, negotiating between parties and guiding and motivating teams. Now is the time for leaders, across sectors, to develop new ways for students to learn that are more directly, and more dynamically, tied to where our economy is going, not where it has been. Critically, that involves bringing the same level of rigor to training around people skills that we have brought to technical skills."

Great article! Particularly loved the key question we need to ask ourselves at this moment of historic change in the age of A.I - what are our core competencies as humans? If we answer that question from a place of fear about what’s left for people in the age of A.I., we can end up conceding a diminished view of human capability. Instead, it’s critical for us all to start from a place that imagines what’s possible for humans in the age of A.I. When you do that, you find yourself focusing quickly on people skills that allow us to collaborate and innovate in ways technology can amplify but never replace. And you find yourself — whatever the role or career stage you’re in — with agency to better manage this moment of historic change. To me it brings forward the importance for practicing abundance mindset now more than ever! #humanbyDesign #humanplusmachine #GenAI #imagination #creativity #peopleskills

Really fascinating piece, and hits directly at what we are learning and trying to do with the California Volunteers, Office of the Governor #CAServiceCorps Grateful to my friend Aneesh Raman and his co-author for writing! A few of my favorite points: “Over 70 percent of executives surveyed by LinkedIn last year said soft skills were more important to their organizations than highly technical A.I. skills. Traditionally, career choices were often dictated by academic performance in specific subjects. Students who excelled in science and math were steered toward engineering or medicine, while those with high marks in humanities were encouraged to pursue law or teaching. However, this narrow approach no longer suffices in today's technology-driven world. With automation and AI transforming industries, skills and interests have become more vital than mere academic grades. Moreover, emerging fields like data science, cybersecurity, and sustainability require interdisciplinary knowledge and skills. The old method overlooks individual passions, strengths, and values, leading to dissatisfaction and stagnation. To thrive in this new era, students must adopt a holistic, structured, and personalized approach to career planning. This involves self-reflection, exploring interests, and identifying strengths beyond academic grades. Consider factors like work-life balance, job security, and growth prospects. Research emerging industries and job markets, and develop transferable skills like critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Seek advice from teachers and career guidance from certified coaches and experienced professionals in desired fields. Utilize the right assessments, online resources and networking platforms to make informed decisions. By embracing this comprehensive approach, students can uncover fulfilling career paths aligned with their unique talents, passions, and aspirations. Early planning and exploration will empower students to make informed choices, adapt to changing landscapes, and create a purposeful, successful career. Hot take: soft skills are vastly more important than hard skills. This was a super interesting article to read, and I highly recommend it. Probably the most important quote within it: "'In the past, jobs were about muscles. Now they’re about brains, but in the future, they’ll be about the heart.'" In a world that glorifies technical skills, we need to relearn how to teach kids in school (& relearn ourselves) skills like communication, empathy, collaboration, networking, creativity, critical thinking, reflection & problem solving. #personaldevelopment #professionaldevelopment #communcation #softskills #careerdevelopment #careeradvancement

After 65 years of the “knowledge economy” (Peter Drucker coined the term “knowledge workers” 65 years ago), we’re about to be ushered into the “wisdom economy” in which artificial intelligence is the commodity and human wisdom is the valued resource. A recent article - “When Your Technical Skills Are Eclipsed, Your Humanity Will Matter More Than Ever” in the New York Times - amplified this message. The basic message is this: Thank God, you didn’t quit your job at 50 to follow the career advice to become a software engineer as they’re a dime a dozen now! 96% of a software engineer’s current skills can eventually be replicated by A.I. Instead, the best thing you can do is to dive deeper into what makes you a human: your unique way of communicating, collaborating, and showing compassion. Maybe humanities will make a comeback on college campuses?! Almost anticipating this moment a few years ago, Minouche Shafik, who is now the president of Columbia University, said: “In the past, jobs were about muscles. Now they’re about brains, but in the future, they’ll be about the heart.” I appreciated this final paragraph in the NYT piece which might suggest that we’re moving from the “survival of the fittest” to the “survival of the wisest”: “The knowledge economy that we have lived in for decades emerged out of a goods economy that we lived in for millennia, fueled by agriculture and manufacturing. Today the knowledge economy is giving way to a relationship economy, in which people skills and social abilities are going to become even more core to success than ever before. That possibility is not just cause for new thinking when it comes to work force training. It is also cause for greater imagination when it comes to what is possible for us as humans not simply as individuals and organizations but as a species.”

“When Your Technical Skills Are Eclipsed, Your Humanity Will Matter More Than Ever” What does that even mean? How many times have you seen this type of headline throughout your career? Dozens? Hundreds? The challenge with all these well-meaning soundbites that pronounce that EQ is more important than IQ “more than ever” is that while they are true and prescient, they deliver zero concrete solutions. Imagine how inspirational soundbites play in professional sports. You get inspiration, but no system with which to build Maximum High Performance. For 21 years now, The Luxury Institute, LLC has been continuously researching performance science in professional sports, the military, emergency rooms, entertainment, positive psychology, neuroscience, and wherever the science takes us, to discover exactly how high-performance is achieved by human beings in places where performance counts and is measurable. We have researched Emotional Intelligence studies from top universities and found them to be all theory, and no practice. All hat and no cattle, as they say in Texas. We had to distill and redefine EI for actionability. We also interview top sales and front-line professionals as to what are the critical mindset and behaviors differences between top performers and the rest. We had to develop and apply our own high-performance, trusted relationship-building system to the EI “soft skills”, and we have trained thousands of front-line associates at all levels with measurable and documented results. Most sales, customer service and customer experience trainers are motivational speakers with robotic systems and zero proof of results. And it’s ok to hire your friends. Just be realistic about what you are buying. Our “Mastery of HNW Relationship Building” online course is empirically based and measurably proven. It is based on ACTION: the Practice and Mastery of SKILL. If you are truly serious about how to make your team thrive with “your humanity” in the Age of AI, click below. "Dialectic dialogues - A call to action for parents and aspiring minds" Thank you, Chip Conley, for your inspiring dedication to challenging the status quo. Embracing your call for change, I see a critical path forward: our educational system must evolve to embrace multidisciplinary learning. This shift involves moving beyond pigeonholing students into single-skill sets ("Identify your niche")and towards cultivating multidisciplinary excellence and detailed understanding of diverse fields such as philosophy, psychology, genetics, epigenetics, neuroscience and AI literacy. Understanding AI and its integration with various fields, especially biotechnology and healthcare, is imperative for our next generation to navigate the rapidly evolving technological landscape. These disciplines offer invaluable insights into the human condition, our motivations, the future of medicine, and the integration of technology with our biological selves. Remarkably, major advancements in fields like epigenetics (rooted in biobank data interpreted only with use of AI algorithms at scale for years now) have already been published continuously since 2010-2015. Yet, the knowledge and AI algorithm use, for years remained siloed within elite institutions and startups, far from public discourse and education, particularly in medical schools. This gap underscores a broader issue: the monopoly of vital knowledge by select industries and policy makers, leaving the general populace, including our future generations, at a disadvantage. Engaging in open discussions about these topics is crucial, not just in academic settings but also in more personal, everyday environments like family dinners. Such conversations can demystify complex subjects, making them accessible and relevant to all, including young minds and their guardians. In light of this, I propose a direct call to action for parents and those 16 and older with aspirations to shape their futures, particularly those with access to platforms like LinkedIn where professional and educational paths often intersect. How do you perceive the integration of such diverse fields of knowledge into our daily lives, particularly through family dinner discussions? Would you be interested in collaborating on a platform dedicated to making these conversations a part of our educational landscape? How important is it to you that your children not only excel in traditional subjects but also gain a deep understanding of emerging fields like AI, genetics, and neuroscience? To young adults and those seeking inspiration for their future paths: In what ways do you think a multidisciplinary approach to learning could impact your career choices and life direction? Let's explore the possibilities together. #genetics #aiforgood #philosophy #digitalliteracy #parenting #interdisciplinary #innovationineducation #STEM #lifelonglearning #criticalthinking #socraticmethod #neuroscience #epigenetics #cognitivepsychology
