How can we create an unforgettable holiday for someone who is visually impaired? That’s a question my team and I have been thinking about a lot these past few months. We have many fantastic accessible activities and adventure experiences for people with various disabilities, ranging from reduced mobility to conditions such as cerebral palsy and Down syndrome. What distinguishes visually impaired or totally blind people from others is obviously their loss of sight. In most cases, their other senses are still intact – or even sharper than those who can see. Since taking them out to enjoy the views is not an option, my team member Sina and I have put together a special Sensory Programme. It’s a complete itinerary for blind holiday guests that includes activities addressing all the other four senses – a different one each day. For example, Day 1 could include a visit to a salt extraction plant with a guided tour and salt tasting or optional beer tasting (brewed with salt). On Day 2, you could visit an animal sanctuary in the middle of the volcanic desert and interact with various friendly animals. And on Day 3, you could make your own “pellas” (balls or dumplings made from gofio mixed with water, milk, honey or other ingredients) at an old traditional Canarian gofio (a traditional Canarian flour made from roasted grains) mill. Other activities could include: 🐴 Horse-riding 🐬 Swimming with dolphins 🧼 Making your own handmade bath salt that feels and smells wonderful 🛁 Relaxing in different thermal baths, including a Roman bath with music therapy, or the active pool with waterfalls, bubble chairs, and hydromassage beds. Which activity sounds most appealing to you? P.S. The Sensory Programme, including all activities, will soon be published on our website. #visuallyimpaired #blind #sensoryprogramme #accessibility #Lanzarote #LanzAbility

Are humans refusing to see the ethical issues in their search for entertainment? especially when they deal with wildlife? Wonder why this ? .. read on.. A Thrilling New Safari Experience in the UK The UK has introduced an exhilarating twist to the traditional safari: luxury accommodations inside zoo enclosures. Tourists now have the unique opportunity to stay in lavish lodges with floor-to-ceiling glass walls that meet them with majestic wildlife, including lions. These enclosures are carefully designed to ensure the safety of both visitors and animals while offering an unparalleled immersive experience. Imagine drifting off to sleep as lions roam freely just inches away on the other side of the glass. Their piercing eyes glint under the moonlight as they curiously peer inside, and if you’re lucky—or daring—they might even scratch at the glass with a low growl, making their presence unmistakable. It’s a heart-pounding yet oddly tranquil experience, blending the thrill of the wild with the comfort of modern luxury. This concept transforms traditional zoo visits into an intimate adventure, allowing guests to observe the natural behaviors of animals up close, day and night. It’s a rare chance to connect deeply with wildlife, promoting both awe and respect for these powerful creatures. While some hail it as an innovative way to engage with nature, critics raise ethical questions about animal behavior and the impact of human proximity. Nevertheless, for those seeking an unforgettable, adrenaline-charged experience, this safari redefines how we interact with the animal kingdom. https://lnkd.in/gVhnwTx2 #SleepWithLions #WildlifeUpClose #UKSafariAdventure #ZooStaycation #ThrillOfTheWild #ImmersiveNature #WildlifeEncounters #UniqueTravelExperience #StayInTheWild

Imagine sitting on a rock in the middle of a forest taking a brief break from your hike. After grabbing a few sips of water and catching your breath, you realize that you are enveloped by the sounds of the environment. It isn't loud, but it isn't quiet either. You hear the bird song of a few different species, the sounds of insects moving about, the ever-present deep sound of the distant rocky stream, and then it starts to drizzle. At first you feel and hear the tiny droplets falling on foliage around you, and then after a short time, you notice the louder plops of larger drips that were once smaller droplets that gathered together in the canopy above you. This is one end of the spectrum of recreational sound. For some it can be relaxing, exhilarating, or both. It can be healthy and restorative. In Japan, it's referred to as forest bathing. When the forest is quiet sound levels may be around 25 dBA, but when wildlife is about and the breeze blows through the canopy it may be up around 50 dBA at times. In a couple days, people all across the United States will be participating in the other end of the spectrum of recreational sounds: Fourth of July fireworks. Many find the booms, pops, and whistles of fireworks exhilarating. Besides the visual display, the burst of air pressure we're exposed to is unlike most sounds we experience on a regular basis. For those who are near the launch point of fireworks, say one to two football fields away, sound levels from each individual explosion can reach between 100 and 120 dBA. Prolonged exposure to such levels (and even shorter durations at the higher end of that range) can cause hearing loss. Our Recreation & Public Lands Practice Area, helps local, state, and federal public lands develop better policies and practices to protect the opportunity to hear natural and historical sounds. We also assist event venues and tourist destinations manage their recreational sounds. This Fourth of July, whether you are enjoying a babbling brook on your hike, the laughter and banter of a family BBQ, or the sights and sounds of a fireworks display, Paxwood Acoustics wishes you a happy and safe Independence Day. Feel free to leave us a comment; we're interested in hearing about the enjoyable sounds you experience as you celebrate the 4th.

Summer doesn’t have to be exhausting (or lonely). It’s tough to see your friends enjoying fun summer celebrations together, and you just don’t have the energy to tag along. ☀️ But I hope you know you can still enjoy this beautiful season (and have fun!) while managing your chronic illness. Here are 5 gentle summer activity ideas: 1. MOONLIT PICNIC: Enjoy cooler evening air with a relaxing picnic under the stars. Pack light snacks and a cozy blanket. You don’t have to go far. 2. BACKYARD BIRDWATCHING: Set up a comfy chair and just listen and observe your local birdlife. You could use your Merlin Bird ID app to identify what you're hearing, but I'd encourage you to just sit. 3. WATERCOLOR PAINTING: Capture the beauty of summer with creative expression. Set up a small art station in your yard or near a window with a view. 4. SUNRISE STRETCHING: Start your morning with gentle stretches or yoga, a refreshing way to energize your body without overexertion. 5. VIRTUAL TRAVEL TOURS: Explore new destinations from the comfort of your home. Many museums and tourist spots offer virtual tours—no travel required! Find joy in the small moments, and make the most of this season in the way that suits YOU. #GentleSummerFun #ChronicIllnessLife #InvisibleIllness #SelfCareSummer #chronicillnesstips

There's something truly magical about sleeping under the expansive Australian night sky. Here's why swags are perfect for your outback adventure: 1.) Unlike traditional tents, swags are quick to roll out, so you spend less time setting up and more time experiencing the wilderness. 2.) Without the barriers of a tent, you're one with the environment—perfect for stargazing and soaking in the serene night sounds. 3.) Our swags come equipped with comfortable linens and warm sleeping bags to ensure you stay snug, regardless of the weather. 4.) On Mother's Day, try playing Mom, distribution folks! Remember that awkward stage when your kids fight over the last juice box? Yeah, that's kinda what goes down in the world of OTAs (Online Travel Agencies) sometimes. Just like siblings vying for the same toy. The struggle is real, folks. But here's the thing: just like you wouldn't want your kids to constantly fight, a healthy relationship between hotels and OTAs is crucial. Why? Happy OTAs, Happy Travelers: When we work together, hotels can reach a wider audience through targeted promotions on different platforms, meaning more bookings for you! But Margins Matter: Constant price wars can eat away at hotel profits, making it harder to invest in guest experiences and keep those shiny amenities sparkling. So, the lesson? It's a delicate balance. A little healthy competition (think friendly sibling rivalry) keeps things exciting for travelers, but strong partnerships between hotels and OTAs ensure everyone wins. #OTAlife #TravelPartnerships #MothersDay P.S. Unlike kids, OTAs (hopefully) clean up after themselves. Photo by Monstera Production: https://lnkd.in/d64VUJae

Enjoyment declines with time. The more we consume something, almost always, the less we enjoy it. That first bite of chocolate cake is divine, but the last one is merely tasty. A massage starts off feeling amazing and rejuvenating, but by the end of the hour, we are often bored and ready to move on. And the daylong respite on the beach begins as a blissful escape from reality, but often ends with annoyance about the baking sun and the itchy sand. All things, no matter how enjoyable at first, become decidedly less so with time. So how do we combat this inevitable decline in enjoyment? One general recommendation: Do less! What is your secret to having a great vacation? Three ways that you can do less: via quantity, variety and timing. For quantity, the recommendation is straightforward enough: Even when tempted to stay on the beach for longer, just don’t. End on a high note, even if staying longer might seem like a good idea in the moment. This will stave off the inevitable decline in enjoyment that will shortly follow, and will have the added benefit of leaving you with more positive memories of your trip. For variety, when you schedule your vacation, try to mix things up as much as possible, even within the span of a single day. Rather than have one beach day followed by one hiking day, mix those up within a single day; relax on the beach in the morning, and hike in the afternoon. Even though you’re cutting your beach time short, the more variety you introduce, the less you experience that drop in enjoyment for any one experience. This “choice overload,” as it’s commonly called, is easily addressed by acting as a “satisficer”— a person who upon finding the first acceptable option among a set of options, accepts it. This contrasts with a maximizer, who considers every option in front of them and tries to make the best choice. Think of the satisficer as someone who reads a restaurant menu and orders the first dish that sounds tasty. And think of a maximizer as the person who first carefully reads about every single dish on the menu and then, eventually, makes a choice. The maximizer might make a better choice, but if they make a bad one, they have so many other dishes to regret not picking. But the satisficer simply doesn’t know any better and enjoys the meal. Ignorance, here, truly is bliss. Similarly, if you research every hotel option and the one you chose doesn’t live up to your expectations, you will have many other hotels to regret skipping. In general, research shows that satisficers are happier in life because they avoid the problem of choice overload.
