Syria: Ensure Transition Respects Human Rights (Dec. 10, 2024) – The leadership of any Syrian transitional government that emerges should take urgent steps to ensure respect for human rights obligations and lay the foundation for a new government based on democracy and the rule of law, DAWN said today. DAWN urged the emerging leadership in the country to establish a civilian-led transitional council, deploy its forces to protect vulnerable people from possible reprisals, abide by human rights obligations with respect to the treatment of detainees, and secure weapons facilities throughout the country before it seeks to demilitarize armed groups and merge them into a single, unified military force. DAWN urged the international community to support Syria to transition to democratic rule and end foreign military interference in the country. "The new Syrian government should recognize that its victory over the Assad regime is the result of the sacrifices of millions of Syrians who have suffered for over a decade in their struggle for democratic rule and respect for human rights," said Sarah Leah Whitson, Executive Director of DAWN. "It should urgently issue public commitments that it will respect the rights of the Syrian people to justice and immediately seek to establish democratic governance in the country." How is the M23 militia winning eastern Congo's forgotten conflict? It has authored 2 exceedingly deadly rebellions in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC): one in 2012-2013, the other from 2021 to the present. In both cases, the Rwandan government has been widely and routinely identified as the M23’s benefactor (and sometimes its collaborator). The Rwandan government always denies it. M23 is well-armed and highly effective. One analyst (Brian Sabbe) has explained that “M23 claims to defend the interests of Congolese Tutsi and Kinyarwanda-speaking minorities.” According to the militia, “the grievances of these minorities revolve around threats by Hutu militias and the state’s ineptitude to protect them.” Allegations highlight how “M23 has perpetrated human rights violations against civilians, including Tutsi.” A recent report highlights the breathtaking destruction of M23 assaults on the lives and spirits of young Congolese. The author, Fidèle Kitsa, notes that the situation is getting much worse for civilians, as “Increasing Rwandan support over the past few months has allowed the M23 to massively expand its footprint in North Kivu province, overshadowing other insurgencies in the east and raising the risk of a major regional conflagration.” DRC’s median age is 17. Kitsa’s article highlights the hope and despair of a selection of its youth in the east. There is real fear of what may come next, particularly given the sense that the M23 is winning and the Congolese army is not. A young resident of Goma has this to share: “We are under martial law, which means the province is led by [Congolese] soldiers, yet unfortunately there is the most total insecurity that I have ever seen. The situation is getting worse, because when you see what is happening in North Kivu, there is a risk for us to become Rwandans – to be ruled by Rwanda. This is the risk we run if nothing is done. When I look at the situation, I feel like my heart is bleeding.”

Since yesterday, some voice messages have been circulating among Syrians about the top officials of the regime and how they allegedly fled Syria, saving themselves and their families from accountability. The source of these messages is unidentified, and I would classify them as rumors and unverified information. A time will come when scenarios like these will be based on facts and clearly presented to all Syrians. For now, rebuilding trust, the economy, and security in the country are the crucial steps. We have also heard that the new interim authorities in Syria will soon publish "a first list of the names of the most senior people involved in torturing the Syrian people." Additionally, there are calls to show tolerance toward those whose hands are not stained with the blood of the Syrian people and to grant amnesty to those who were in compulsory military service. However, I came across a claim that some senior officials from the previous regime, including Maher Al-Assad (the brutal brother of Bashar Al-Assad), provided information to the Israeli occupation before fleeing as part of their ongoing relationship. Whether this happened exactly as described or not, many of us understood the regime's duplicity long ago. The way this regime handled the Palestinian issue, its treatment of Palestinians in Syria, the constant Israeli bombardment of Syrian territory without retaliation, and Bashar's reported offer to sell out his allies to the U.S. in exchange for retaining power are all small but telling signs of their collaboration. I sincerely believe that putting an end to Israel’s violations starts with overthrowing this regime. Syrians have already taken a significant step; they have freed their country and saved detainees who will finally see accountability and justice prevail. #Syria

Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (SB) 5.12.7 : It is stated in SB that in Kali-yuga the heads of government will be plunderers and thieves. These thieves and plunderers take the money and property of the public by force or connivance. Bashar al-Assad (Former president of Syria) is epitome of the above quote. While preparing for conference as a delegate of El Slavador defending Syria's human rights before the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) at the 2015 SRM MUN. It was heart Wrenching to know the worst humanitarian crisis of Syria while reading Arab Spring, 2011 Syrian Revolution, Syrian civil war, and Sanctions. Assad is a Satan disguised as syria's president who used his power to oppress, torture, murder the rebellions during Syrian Civil War (2011–2024). People all across the world are happy to know that dictators regime has ended as he was kicked out of the capital of Damascus by rebel groups. Many people from below listed international organizations came forward to support as per their capacity for syrians struggling to survive during civil war. Today, It feels really great to see tortured prisoners reuniting with their families, Russian troops retreating, rallies and celebrations of victory .Hope Syria have a bright new beginning and forms a good government for a great future. Cheers!!! like UNICEF, International Rescue Committee (IRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), International Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations Country Team (UNCT), United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA),United States, UNHCR. #Syriancivilwar #syria

Rudaw Media Network reports #Rojava flag of #YPG #SDF #PKK has been replaced with the #Syria flag. It's not enough. My advice Democratic National Committee Republican National Committee is following: Youth for Joe Biden Tulsi Gabbard - Form agreements for long-term protection of #YPG #SDF #PKK - Agree to hand oil back to the #Syria government and avoid future instability. - Agree for an "orderly" withdrawal of American troops from Syria like #Iraq, unlike #Afghanistan. - Agree for "quick" repatriation of #ISIS prisoners, or closure #AlRoj #AlHol camps #Hasakah. A percentage are innocent. Human Rights Watch has cited human rights violations. Majority of detainees are women and children. I would add that United States Department of Defense has destroyed a bridge connecting #DeirEzzour to #Hasakah recently. Some of my students participated in taking control of Deir Ezour recently. I don't think this action will stop them. The article explores the complex and deeply rooted Israel-Palestine conflict, emphasizing the significant violations of international humanitarian law by both parties. It highlights the humanitarian crisis resulting from recent escalations, including the substantial loss of civilian life, particularly among children and women, due to military actions and the destruction of infrastructure. The article argues that both Israel and Hamas are breaching legal obligations under various international treaties, contributing to widespread suffering and a cycle of violence. It advocates for a two-state solution, adherence to international laws, and the need for global powers and organizations to intervene and promote peace while protecting human rights. New details emerge of ethnic cleansing in Darfur. New testimony details one of the worst atrocities of the year-long Sudanese civil war, the large-scale massacre of civilians as they desperately tried to flee an ethnic rampage in Darfur last summer. As El Fasher stands on the ‘precipice of a massacre’, rights groups call for sanctions after new testimony describes atrocities carried out by RSF paramilitaries in Sudan. https://lnkd.in/gT2rdf9n In the first of two articles on the crisis, I argue that with no military victory in sight, negotiation is the only path to peace in Sudan. Sudan needs an international coalition for peace and binding commitments on its future to stop the civil war that is benefiting no one except the generals. https://lnkd.in/gD4yjHKf

After nearly 14 years of war, and over 53 years of al-Assad family rule, Syria has seen the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime. The war saw countless atrocities committed and nearly 12 million Syrians displaced. A country that was home to an ancient civilization, and one of the main points on the ancient Silk Road, had seen itself cut off from much of the global community for the greater part of the decade. The next challenge for Syria is to re-unite the country which has been torn between internal, regional and global divisions. The necessity for the installation of a functioning transitional government which can coordinate all groups will be the first task that awaits the people of Syria.
What happened in Syria? How did al-Assad fall?

3wDo you mean that those who savagely tortured and killed hundred of thousands of Syrians while the ‘civilized’ west was silent, backing Al-Assad are treated in a ‘human rights’ manner?! Do you mean by democracy ‘American brought democracy’ like the one in Iraq, Lybia, …..?
