New York’s Heavy Civil Construction Boom: Key Players and Projects Shaping the Future New York’s heavy civil construction scene is bustling with massive projects that blend sustainability, resilience, and innovation. Here’s a look at some top projects and the key construction players bringing them to life: 1. Hudson River Rail Tunnel Project: In the $16 billion Hudson River Rail Tunnel project, Skanska and Halmar International are leading the charge. With seven of the nine construction packages underway, this project will enhance connectivity between NYC and New Jersey, providing critical redundancy for the aging Northeast Corridor. 2. Kensico-Eastview Water Tunnel: For water infrastructure, Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. is heading up the $1.1 billion Kensico-Eastview Connection Tunnel. This project is designed to secure NYC’s water supply by creating redundancies that will allow the system to manage emergencies, highlighting New York’s dedication to critical infrastructure resilience. 3. Sustainable Infrastructure and Climate Resilience Initiatives: The Port Authority, with $347 million in funding, is partnering with several sustainability-driven firms to implement zero-emission equipment and infrastructure across transit hubs, advancing the state’s climate goals. Another $60 million statewide investment focuses on beach erosion control and flood prevention on Long Island, ensuring that New York stays ahead of climate challenges. 4. NYC’s Expansive $160 Billion Capital Plan: Skanska and Turner Construction Company are key players in NYC’s ambitious $160 billion capital plan, targeting upgrades across transit, housing, and public infrastructure. By adopting design-build models, these companies are streamlining project delivery, positioning New York for a resilient, future-ready urban landscape. These initiatives not only underscore New York’s commitment to infrastructure investment but also showcase the expertise of top construction companies, setting new standards for urban resilience and sustainability. #ConstructionNews #NYInfrastructure #UrbanResilience #SustainableConstruction #CivilEngineering #HudsonTunnel #PortAuthority #NYCDevelopment #WaterInfrastructure #FutureofNYC #HeavyCivilConstruction

I really like these policy announcements for a number of reasons, (specifically the funding for enabling infrastructure works and a pause on NCC changes): 1. It is policy focused on addressing root causes of the delays in the supply of new homes. It is addressing the problems, not just announcing funding for new homes. 2. It is policy that recognises that it is faster and more affordable to build a detached home or townhouse than high density apartment living. This is the fastest way to address the housing crisis. This finally acknowledges the importance of greenfield development in the supply of new homes. 3. It is policy that reflects what Australians want; they want to live in a home with a backyard and space to grow their families. Not an apartment tower. 4. Finally, and importantly, it is policy developed in consultation with builders who best understand the issues being encountered in the residential construction industry. More needs to be done, including addressing the workforce requirements of the industry, changes to state based planning schemes and alignment with local councils on timing. We look forward to having the opportunity to work with state and federal governments on these issues. Michael Sukkar The Hon. Peter Dutton MP Jocelyn Martin #HousingSupply #BuildingIndustry
This morning the Coalition The Hon. Peter Dutton MP Michael Sukkar Michaelia Cash Bridget McKenzie announced a plan for a $5 billion plan to support housing infrastructure and a proposal to limit future changes to the National Construction Code.
