Last week our team was in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam at the kick off meetings for the collaborators on the AWaRe1 Project. The AWaRe1 Project is a Wellcome Trust-funded, four-year initiative aimed at identifying and transforming antibiotic prescribing practices. Together, we are developing an innovative framework for antibiotic prescribing surveillance, benchmarking, and conducting population-based interventional trials to optimize antibiotic use.
✨ Exciting Kick-Off for the AWaRe1 Project in Vietnam! ✨ We are thrilled to welcome all our AWaRe1 collaborators to the kick-off meeting in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. A heartfelt thank you to the incredible @OUCRUVietnam team for hosting us, providing invaluable support, and sharing their expertise with the consortium. The AWaRe1 Project is a @WellcomeTrust-funded, four-year initiative aimed at identifying and transforming antibiotic prescribing practices. Together, we are developing an innovative framework for antibiotic prescribing surveillance, benchmarking, and conducting population-based interventional trials to optimize antibiotic use. Our work is divided into three core workflows: 1️⃣ WS1: Developing novel methodologies to assess antibiotic exposure in primary care, leveraging geo-spatial mapping approaches. 2️⃣ WS2: Led by KTU in Cape Town, this workflow builds on the AWaRe Book’s primary care respiratory tract infection (RTI) guidance to create localized, country-specific educational and process interventions for primary healthcare clinics. 3️⃣ WS3: Testing these interventions through a large-scale, pragmatic cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT). Over the last three days, we’ve come together as a diverse and dynamic group to coordinate our efforts, refine our delivery plan, and chart the best path forward for the years ahead. We look forward to driving meaningful impact in antibiotic stewardship and improving global health outcomes through this collaboration. Holidays and gratitude... With the holidays finally here, I have a moment to look back on an intense and rewarding year in the Biodesign course. It’s been a truly hands-on experience, from coming up with ideas to developing a full business concept. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of my team Sam Cogan Dana Farah, our mentors, and the course leaders. I want to give special thanks to Dr. Anat Stern, who opened our eyes to the significant issue of penicillin allergy mislabeling. Her dedication to patient safety inspired us to work on a solution that could make a real difference. In fact, we dedicated the reflection section of our final report to her, as a recognition of her guidance and the impact she had on our project. While we won’t be pursuing this specific project further, the lessons we’ve learned along the way were invaluable. We’re now exploring new opportunities in a completely different field, far from infections, but still in the rapidly growing and exciting space of healthcare innovation. To be continued... #Biodesign Israel, Yona Vaisbuch, Sagit Eshel, Oded Kraft, @Dr. Anat Shtern, @Eyal Zohar, @Dr. Ivan Gur, Fabian Schvartzman, @Charlie Chaim Haber, and @Adi Fechter #Biodesign #MedTech #PatientSafety #Innovation #Biotech #Entrepreneurship #Gratitude #HealthcareInnovation
🌟 We are excited to Present Biodesign Israel 4th Cohort graduate teams🌟 From groundbreaking projects to inspiring solutions, this cohort has demonstrated extraordinary creativity and commitment. We can’t wait to share their successes and the incredible potential they bring to the field. We’re thrilled to showcase their hard work and celebrate their accomplishments. Meet AllerGuide ⬇ Ofri Meller-Peri Dana Farah Sam Cogan A century ago, simple infections were deadly due to the lack of effective treatments. Antibiotics transformed this, but the overuse of broad-spectrum antibiotics now threatens us with antibiotic resistance. AllerGuide addresses a critical issue: 10% of Americans are labeled as allergic to penicillin, yet only 1% truly are, affecting 33 million people. This mislabeling leads to unnecessary use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, resulting in antibiotic resistance, increased healthcare costs, and longer hospital stays. AllerGuide is a real time decision support system to help doctors make more informed decisions regarding patients with reported Antibiotic Allergies. This ensures optimal patient care and combats antibiotic resistance, a global threat. #Biodesign #Innovation #Teamwork #Graduation #FutureLeaders Yona Vaisbuch Si Buchbut
