It’s a special day to champion food trucks and encourage the hardworking men and women whose food businesses support the local economy. People celebrate the day by purchasing from their local food trucks, which offer a variety of tasty temptations from gourmet burgers to sushi, ice cream, assorted fries, and tacos. 🚐🌮🍟 Food trucks are inspired by centuries-old food carts dating back to the 17th century. Vendors traded food from small carts or moveable mini kitchens, and the practice is still common today where they are found on street corners, in parks, and catering to hungry crowds at special events. Chuckwagons were the first types of food trucks. They sold edibles like beans, cured meat, coffee, and biscuits to ranchers and loggers in the southern part of the country. ❗❓: Did you know? Millennials love food trucks - At least 47% of Millenials have eaten from a food truck at some point. #NationalFoodTruckDay #FoodTruck #ZempelInsurance #LakeMills #LakeMillsInsurance #LakeMillsOffice #FoodTruckDay #SupportLocal #FoodBusiness #SmallBusiness

Great to see the duopoly coming under scrutiny for the sake of #farmers even more so than for #consumers - although I have to take issue with the suggestion UK #supermarkets are better because of the 'quality' of their ready-made meals. The use of ready-made meals in the UK and US is horrifying. #food #supermarkets #foodsystemstransformation https://lnkd.in/gFAq_kuF

As warmer weather encourages us to enjoy more outdoor fun with barbeques, we often overlook the dual role food packaging plays in making the perfect picnic more delicious. By protecting the food during transport and keeping it fresh, even the ants will be happy. https://lnkd.in/ggiYykcv #webgauging #foodpackaging #processoptimization #TFSCAD

4.4% sales growth for Iceland Foods vs last year *. …and they’re appealing to Gen Z with clever brand partnerships with the likes of #thesidemen by Jordan Schwarzenberger That’s not our market (yet) but when the big players lead at enticing a younger audience to frozen as a category, it makes things that little bit easier for the smaller players like us. At byRuby we are aiming at busy milennials who probably wouldn’t shop other frozen meal solutions (aside from maybe itsu [grocery] dumplings and bao buns and the odd Crosta & Mollica frozen pizza or dessert here or there.) ❄️ Little by little we are changing the dial and building trust in premium frozen ❄️ Thanks to Stephen Jones at The Grocer for the insight *Kantar most recent market share report Oliver Gilding - exciting work! (Photo of me doing a bit of store reconnaissance last week, shiny new serves 4 fish pie packaging in hand!) See the article by Stephen Jones in the comments below 👇

Maccas big on impulse purchases; legally at an Aussie Loss Salads are not the same impulse item viewed as pretty 'cheap' as a burger or fries at McDonald's Australia (Maccas) is today. Their sales are still occuring at some Australian stores but it is appearing as a dying out Maccas menu item. Like every multinational, making a profit remains a significant goal for one of the largest international fast food chains. Salad is not a food item cited as making a big return in the US either. Fast-food compulsions generally means spending around $11.80 for a Big Mac meal large per person on eating out or drive in at Maccas; where burgers and really all food and drink menu items as compared to 20 years ago are tinier. But, supporting a person's health is one understated reason behind Maccas' cost hike for food and drink, when their actual size is down. Splurging on a Maccas item is not so fattening to the consumer. The finger can be pointed at overweight Americans as one reason Maccas' portion sizes have decreased. And, Maccas prices are competitive, so low-income households in the US continue to turn to Maccas for a quick bite to fill hunger impulses. It's a cheap meal for many Americans. What Australia likes is that Australian Maccas uses integral and high-quality ingredients of grass fed Australian beef, or Canola oil is popular for frying chips and chicken nuggets. The market component of supporting Australian farmers remains an advertising angle Maccas won't let fade easily from Aussie shores. In November, Justice Stephen Burley in the Federal Court, ruled on a Maccas trademark case, where it's been running for more than three years. It was found that Maccas and competitor Hungry Jack's do not have a Big Mac lookalike burger in the "Big Jack". It is clear the Australian market that has a few dollars to spare is a big inducer to Maccas; as it aims to stop competitors from treading on their nous. It was however a big legal action to lose; where Maccas was disputing Hungry Jack's on a new burger that could be a Maccas menu burger rip off. But all Maccas consumers know a Maccas burger from a Hungry Jack's burger. It defeated the Big Jack on the claim Judge Burley found the Hungry Jack's saying this burger had “25% more Aussie beef” than the Big Mac was misleading or deceptive. Selling more fast-food is what ventures want superiority on. The paper bag that comes with most sales has the fast food logo that's proudly shown. When you bin your goods, the bin has the product logo on it. Maccas is now working harder at making it known to all Aussies, that they've been utilising Aussie farmers and producers for over 50 years. That more than 90% of buys in produce, products, and cooking content ingredients such as dairy and vegetables are Australia made. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese may not like the fat content but Maccas is showcasing a Future Made in Australia. Across Australia, a Maccas can be found in most major cities. This week is national picnic week, but with many of us fed up with the usual soggy sandwiches (and no doubt the lack of picnic weather!). I wanted to share with you all some ideas for alternatives that you can pack in your picnic: 🥧 Bitesize quiches - avoid having to worry about cutlery or plates by making bitesize quiches - the perfect way to use up any leftover ingredients, in particular any veg that you have in your fridge. 🥕 Crudities - chop up lots of vegetables (the more variety of colour the better) - lay a moistened sheet of kitchen towel in between each layer to keep them separate along with preventing them from drying out. Take a variety of dips and dunk away! 🍢 Mozzarella sticks - use mini mozzarella balls to make up mini skewers on cocktail sticks combined with fresh basil and cherry tomatoes - the perfect one mouthful bite. 🧀 Charcuterie board - grazing boards are all the rage at the moment. Simply layer up lots of different cooked meats, cheeses and crackers and wrap well in film or foil, ready to have your ‘voila’ moment when you arrive at your picnic. 🍉 Fruit kebabs - load up kebab skewers with lots of different fruit - not only will they look pretty, they are also super easy to eat on the go. As an extra treat you could take a tub of flavoured live yoghurt to dip them into. Somethng refreshing like a lemon flavoured yoghurt goes really well. 🍪 Protein balls - these are super easy to make in advance and can even be frozen in advance. They make the perfect healthy snack that are incredibly easy to pack with any picnic. If, like me, you’re local to Dorset, then here are my top tips for picnic spots in the area: 🌳 Sandbanks (ferry side) 🌳 Lake Pier 🌳 Hamworthy park 🌳 Blue pool (Wareham) 🌳 Sandfoots castle 🌳 Dancing ledge (Swanage) #5pillarsofvitatlity #eat #picnic #nationalpicnicweek #picnicweek #sandwiches #picnicfood #recipes #dorset
