Local authorities face a lot of friction when trying to contribute to the discussion of energy and climate policies at national level. There is a lack of internal specialised human resources, technical knowledge and training. Communication among municipalities may be complicated; financial resources and platforms for municipalities may be scarce. There are, however, many opportunities to reverse this, such as new financing schemes and the decentralisation of some competencies on climate and energy. The cities of Palmela, Sesimbra and Setubal joined forces with the ENA - Agência de Energia e Ambiente da Arrábida to produce recommendations for a mobility focused multilevel dialogue using low carbon simulations. Through specialized regulatory workshops, we aim to inform policymakers at the local, national, and EU levels. To ensure the seamless implementation of the DE-RİSK project in participating countries, we will address regulatory gaps by examining diverse regulatory and policy frameworks and market maturity conditions. Starting with practical use cases, we will develop a comprehensive roadmap for the advancement of Local Flexibility Markets. This roadmap will guide the evolution and maturity of these markets, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet future energy demands. New policy brief from the LIFE #NECPlatform project! Multilevel governance in the EU energy and climate policy: why it still matters after the submission of the final updated NECPs. It aims to highlight the benefits of multilevel governance processes, specifically the Climate and Energy Dialogues (CED), to meet EU and Member States’ climate and energy targets. 📣 Yesterday our Climate Technology and Policy Manager for the Baltic Region Jānis Volberts presented CCS developments in the Baltic States and spoke at the panel on a dissemination event at Tallinn University of Technology, organised by two Horizon Europe projects – HERCCULES project & CCUS ZEN.    🔑 points mentioned:      1️⃣ Overall, national governments in the Baltic states have shown low ambition for CCS deployment to abate industrial process emissions.    2️⃣ Baltic CCS Consortium with granted PCI status progresses with CEF funding application for a FEED study.    ️3️⃣ Acknowledgement of CCS solution from national governments doesn't necessarily translate into support for CCS projects.    4️⃣ There are excellent onshore carbon storage opportunities in Latvia and Lithuania to support industrial competitiveness and climate targets.    We thank the organisers for this opportunity and the many new insights from both projects for speedy and more evenly distributed CCUS projects across Europe.    Discover more in our recent report on draft National Energy and Climate plans assessment 🔎 https://lnkd.in/d6kz-uy8    #CCS #carboncapture #decarbonisation #netzero #climateaction #industry #industrialdecarbonisation #CCS4NetZeroIndustry #CO2infrastructure
