Assam, brings in its first standalone #battery #storage tender of 25 MW/ 100 MWh (EPC + O&M). This tender equals the record of 25 tenders which were issued in 2023, with three months to go, 2024 will far surpass 2023's record. In terms of storage #capacity, in 2024 (till Oct) we are already at 1.6X times the capacity #tendered in 2023. The total tendered #ESS capacity stands at 108 GWh (75 tenders) as of 5th October 2024, of which 79 GWh are PSP, 13 GWh is agnostic and 16 GWh is #battery specific (13 GWh of which has been tendered just in 2024 alone!) This year has also been the most successful year yet in terms of #projects being awarded and that of PSAs being signed in the energy storage space. Lets just talk about #standalone BESS, of the 9 tenders which has been tendered till now in the year, 4 has already been #awarded! Its been equally good for #PSP, which saw one being awarded in a record time of 4 months and LOA being signed for one another! Sharing some of the slides which I shared at the The Battery Show India over the last two days. The tender documents for the OTPC tender can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/d4TuaV9m Amazing times indeed #energytransition!
Very informative Debmalya Ji. Thanks for sharing such a good, compiled, illustrative and easy to understand market on ESS🙏🙏🙏
Thanks Deb ! It's good to see increase in BESS bids but recently few bids getting cancelled or after RA , who is the winner still not known ,such incidents can shake the confidence of the good bidders. Also clarity on GST input credit etc shall be clear so that sustainable tariffs can be discovered otherwise growth will remain on paper....since output is without GST, input credit can't be availed?
Thanks for sharing, Debmalya Sen. Great to see BESS getting a move on in India. On the flip side, what stands out to me is 29 GWh of cancelled PHS projects. I still don’t get it - India has never had a great history of executing PHS projects. Why continue to chance with PHS and delay the transition! Instead, build BESS. Proven technology that is much easier to execute. Thoughts?
Amazing to see the potential of India, it is certainly a market that has a great potential in the short term, also with lots of opportunities for energy storage and grid stabilization.
I think we can call 2024 the year of the rise of Battery storage in India.
Very helpful
