On Friday, November 15th, Debswana had the privilege of hosting new members of the 13th Parliament at the Jwaneng mine as part of their onboarding program. The visit included a comprehensive tour of the mine, offering the MPs a firsthand understanding of our operations. They were provided with detailed updates on the diamond market, insights into current and future projects, and an overview of our contributions to national development. This initiative was aimed at enhancing their understanding of our work and its impact on the nation's growth.
The delegation, led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Honorable Dithapelo Keorapetse, was graciously received by Debswana's Managing Director, Andrew Motsomi, and members of his Executive Committee. This engagement enabled direct interaction between the MPs and Debswana's leadership, promoting a meaningful exchange of ideas and perspectives, and fostering a deeper understanding of Debswana’s strategic operations.

Leadership for Change: I Am You. This was the theme of the group relations conference at USD this past weekend.
My experiences on the staff side of the boundary as part of the administrative team have heightened my awareness of “me” and “we” in such a way that I emerged from the experience as a changed person.
Staff and members were challenged to do deeply introspective work, which also meant that this work had to be extrospective at the same time. How are you me? Against the backdrop of an administrative change in the United States this question permeated the air around us. Los Angeles was still burning, fires were starting in San Diego. MLK Day on the horizon.
There was chaos, the negotiation of authority, uncertainty, and experience of loss. One person’s boundary was another one’s painful rejection. And at the core of it all, in the events and on walks to lunch or inbetween: experiences of care, of being found by others, of being caught in midfall, of being joined. Of repair and renewal.
Conditions in the conference could be choppy on the surface and steady in its depths. It is difficult to deep dive, yet we kept trying. What is clear is that we cannot do this dive alone. To take a line from the Beatles:”We all live in a yellow submarine; And our friends are all onboard; Many more of them live next door.” All we need to do is knock.
Thank you to the incredible Rene Molenkamp, our conference elder Terri Monroe, my colleagues on the administrative team Bryan Cardenas and Michael T. DiNuzzo, MBA, M.Ed., especially our Associate Director of Admin Luis Legaspi; the entire consulting team Hannah Gray-Chambers , M.A.,Jodi "Journée" Austin, Daniel Assisi, Ed.D., PCC, PMP, Yihe (Yee-huh) Yang, PhD, John Loggins, Peter Shapiro, Nicole M. Borunda, Julia Katawazi, Diana Castañeda, LCPC. I am honored that I am you.

This past weekend, I had the privilege of serving as a consultant at the Leadership for Change group relations conference at USD. In a time when challenges feel heavier than ever, this experience brought not only profound learning but also a sense of renewal and purpose.
A special thank-you to Rene for your leadership and for fostering a space where vulnerability and growth coexist so beautifully. To my fellow staff members—each of you brought unique brilliance, authenticity, and wisdom. Working alongside you reminded me of the incredible power of collective effort and shared exploration.
This experience felt particularly meaningful to me as I, like so many others, navigate a deeply challenging time. The work we do—delving into leadership, authority, and the complexity of human dynamics—offered more than intellectual insights. It provided a sense of grounding, support, and deep reflection that has equipped me to face difficulties with greater resilience and courage.
Leadership is never about having all the answers; it’s about asking the hard questions, holding space for uncertainty, and finding strength in connection. This weekend reinforced my belief in the transformative potential of this work, not only for those we serve but also for ourselves as practitioners.
Thank you to everyone who made this journey so impactful. The conversations we shared and the connections we built will undoubtedly guide me as I continue to navigate the road ahead.
