New open access publication (with Kalsoom Zulfiqar and Abdul Rehman Nawaz) in the journal of Population and Economics at Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), we use panel regression technique to show that globalization, along with GDP per capita and access to electricity, significantly impacts environmental sustainability. Excited to share that the first article to come out of my dissertation has been published in the journal Ambio. The research comes out of fieldwork I did with CIFOR (now CIFOR-ICRAF) in Southern Province, Zambia in 2022. This case study develops a revised model of social-ecological resilience theory to better integrate social science into the theory which, to date, has been driven largely by ecological principles. I express my gratitude and respect to this publisher that entrusted me with this task of responsibility to share my knowledge with the scientific and research network for more improvement and innovative tasks involovment.   This article entitled “Spatiotemporal Evolution and Optimization Analysis of Investment Efficiency in China's Agricultural Water Conservancy Infrastructure Based on a Two-Stage DEA Model” addresses an interesting theme that needs more consideration while evaluating the environment, especially in the current state of lack of resources and facing demographic growth and human needs increase. Call for Panelists   African Extractive Industries: Colonial Legacies, Current Challenges and Future Directions    The 9th Annual Lagos Studies Association Conference Format: Hybrid (In person, University of Lagos and Virtual) Date: June 17 -21, 2025 Abstract Deadline: January 1, 2025 Panel Organizer: Patrick Okpalaeke (York University) Scholars have argued that long before the incursion of imperialism, pre-colonial African extractive industries existed (Hammel et al., 2000; Avignon, 2022). Some of the findings from these studies reveal Indigenous technology and knowledge systems as integral to how African societies manage extractive activities in ways that emphasise sustainability in terms of human health and well-being, marine environments, and natural landscapes. However, with the onset of imperialism and colonial rule, African environments faced a severe onslaught as European colonisers conducted large-scale industrial activities and indiscriminate mineral exploitation, often disregarding ecological concerns and the welfare of affected communities (McCann, 1999; Anderson, 2002). The resultant effects of colonial extractivisms triggered humongous environmental crises such as deforestation, erosion, and biodiversity loss, among others. All these affected biodiversity and the quality of life of humans and non-human creatures. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀 👨🏫 On June 4, we had the privilege of having Johannes Stroebel from New York University in our finance research seminar, who presented his new research on “The Economics of Biodiversity Loss”. The research is co-work with Stefano Giglio (Yale University), Theresa Kuchler (NYU) and Olivier Wang (NYU). 🌍 Given the growing interest in understanding the relationships between the economy and biodiversity, the authors present a theoretical model which links production output with the ecosystems. In their model, biodiversity is represented by the variety of species in an ecosystem, and multiple ecosystem “services” (e.g. pollination) serve as crucial factors for economic activity. There's been a lot of discussion about the impact of the Ukrainian agricultural sector on the European market. Some fear that the entry of Ukrainian agroholdings could pose challenges for European farmers. In our latest paper, we look at the resilience and vulnerability of Ukrainian agroholdings before and after the recent shocks. Our findings show that while these agroholdings were resilient during the pandemic, they have faced significant challenges during the ongoing war. We hope that this research will provide valuable insights for policymakers, investors and stakeholders in the agricultural sector. It was an honor to present today 16.05.2024 the Wp5 #poster we created together with prof. Rosa Maria Ballardini, University of Lapland during the #Valuebiomat (project funded by Research Council of Finland | Suomen Akatemia) Advisory Board 2024 meeting. The poster is about nature's #valuation and precisely a criticism of the strong emphasis of #economicvalue of #nature and a proposal for a #value_pluralism framework on the valuation of the natural #environment.
