🏘️ The New Homes Accelerator taskforce! The taskforce has been launched by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, and the team is set to unblock 200 large housing sites that are currently stalled by planning issues. This initiative should fast-track the construction of much needed homes across the UK and will provide growth to the Residential sector, in turn giving a well needed boost to the industry. The release today of the draft Place Strategy for Broadmeadow provides an exciting opportunity for Newcastle to be bold. With the potential to provide over 20,000 new dwellings over 9 sub-precincts the 300-hectare site is one of the most exciting mixed use urban renewal precincts in Australia. The opportunity for the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and City of Newcastle, Australia to combine sport, entertainment, employment and housing will revolutionise the way we live, work and play. With an exceptionally high level of demand for residential building in the lower Hunter, the stage 1 state led rezonings will be a catalyst in alleviating pressures on the housing sector, delivering much-needed housing stock. The faster we can build more housing in Whatcom County, the faster we can begin reducing the cost of housing. Things like streamlining the permitting process can help expedite the development of new homes. Also, let’s take a hard look at the regulations and building codes to identify those that aren’t protecting the health and safety of humans and the environment and assess whether they are truly necessary or just a barrier to new housing. The Government’s housing and regeneration agency, Homes England, has approved a £124 million funding package to unlock more homes and deliver new state-of-the-art infrastructure at #BarkingRiverside in #eastLondon. Barking Riverside, a 443-acre brownfield site formerly occupied by #Barking #PowerStation, is one of Europe’s largest placemaking projects. Upon completion the new mixed-use development will provide affordable family homes, enhanced green spaces, 7 new schools and better access to the #RiverThames, as well as a significant amount of retail, employment and community space. On Tuesday, June 18, the Hilton Head Island Town Council voted to approve a Workforce Housing Development Agreement for an 11-acre tract of Town-owned land at Northpoint Circle. This decision followed a comprehensive analysis and legal review by the Town Council, Town Manager, Town staff, and the Town’s Northpoint Public-Private Partnership Housing Advisory Committee. This marks a critical step toward creating a sustainable workforce housing neighborhood on Hilton Head Island. The Northpoint project reflects a public-private partnership in which the Town provides a 65-year ground lease, funds to support eligible project costs with contributions secured from the American Rescue Plan Fund, affordability covenants to maintain a workforce neighborhood in perpetuity, zoning entitlements, long-term programming support, and project vision. The Town’s development partner, OneStreet Residential, is responsible for design, permitting, financing, project management, construction, lease-up, property management, and long-term resident programming. Over the coming months, OneStreet Residential will collaborate closely with Town leadership to finalize the next steps in the planning process, with construction targeted to commence in the fall of 2025. Construction is anticipated to last 18 months, with the first units being available to rent in late 2026. 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫 Keepmoat will transform a 22.9-acre brownfield site into a vibrant community with around 318 properties, including one to four-bedroom homes, affordable housing, and retirement dwellings, backed by a £65 million investment. This project, on a former school site closed over a decade ago, is set to revitalise the area with sustainable homes ready by winter 2026. Funding from the Homes England Accelerated Construction Programme enabled North East Lincolnshire Council to prepare the site, and Keepmoat has secured planning permission, pending a Section 106 agreement. Regional Land and Partnerships Director Ben Hindley emphasises the partnership with local authorities and housing associations, working closely with North East Lincolnshire Council and Ongo to deliver quality housing and boost the local economy. Councillor Philip Jackson highlights the importance of utilising brownfield sites to support sustainable community growth. $445M Renovation Funding Secured for Manhattanville Houses! 💰 New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and partners have secured $445 million for the comprehensive renovation of 1,272 apartments across six residential buildings in West Harlem. I spent the day in Selwyn yesterday, talking with Builders, Developers and the Council. Like most Regions across New Zealand, Selwyn has seen a downturn in construction activity over the past couple of years. In 2021 and 2022, there were roughly 1,800 new residential dwellings consented in Selwyn. 2023 was this number fell to just 1,152. I'm predicting that there will be a modest increase this year to around 1,300 new homes. However (given the significant population increase as highlighted in this article) I expect that 2025 and beyond will see the number increase rapidly and potentially even surpassing the 2,000 new houses a year mark. Rolleston,Town of the Future...I think you could now say Selwyn,the most popular place to live in the Country.
