The Unseen Story Behind Cold Water Swimming Recently, I was asked about something that brings me joy. Without hesitation, I shared my passion for open water swimming, particularly how I brave the cold waters throughout the winter months. This revelation was met with admiration and even sparked discussions about organising group swims at the ladies' pond. Today, as I slid into the lido, I felt like a fraud. It was a glorious sunny day – the kind that bathes you in apricity, that delightful warmth of the sun in winter, though not quite warm enough for shorts. The scene was picturesque, seemingly perfect for a swim. However, appearances can be deceiving. The water temperature had dropped three degrees in just a week. As I entered, it took every ounce of my willpower to regulate my breathing and summon the courage to put my face in the water and start swimming. Why am I sharing this on LinkedIn, a platform typically reserved for professional achievements and career insights? Because I believe in the power of authenticity and the importance of showing that what is seen on the surface is rarely the whole story. In our professional lives, we often present a curated image of success, resilience, and unwavering confidence. We share the highlights – the promotions, the successful projects, the moments of triumph. But behind every achievement lies a story of challenges, self-doubt, and perseverance. Just as my cold water swimming might appear effortless to onlookers on a sunny day, our professional accomplishments often mask the struggles and doubts we face. It's okay to acknowledge that things are tough sometimes. It's okay to admit that we don't always feel as confident as we appear. So, the next time you see a colleague's impressive LinkedIn post or hear about someone's latest achievement, remember that there's likely an unseen story behind it – a story of resilience, determination, and perhaps even moments of self-doubt. Remember it's not just about the destination; it's about the journey – every cold plunge, every deep breath, and every stroke along the way. #ProfessionalAuthenticity #Resilience #PersonalGrowth #ColdWaterSwimming
