This post is long overdue, but I'm finally sharing my experience from last summer's incredible internship at the University of Windsor! Under the guidance of Prof. Ahmed Sakr, I spent three months building a Cooperative Automated Driving (CAD) testbed along with Vansh Agrawal, motivated by its potential to revolutionize transportation: Complete Autonomous Stack: Built a robust ROS-based software stack for cooperative driving, integrating data from sensors (IMU, encoders, cameras). Perception Systems: Improved the vehicle's environmental understanding through depth detection, object detection and tracking, and lane detection systems. Control Algorithms & State Estimation: Implemented a PID controller (with feedforward) for refined speed control and lane following and used an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) for accurate vehicle state estimation using encoder and IMU data. Estimated ego vehicle states via the follower car using depth and object tracking. Constant Time Headway Controller: Designed an Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system leveraging the Constant Time Headway Policy to enhance safety and efficiency within CAD scenarios. A Touch of RL (Regrettably Brief): Though time constraints limited my exploration, I had originally planned to incorporate elements of Reinforcement Learning into the project. CAD holds the promise of safer, more efficient, and less congested roadways. This internship allowed me to contribute while gaining practical experience. Special thanks to Mahsa Jalali and Milad Moradi. This internship was made possible by their support, and they have been invaluable mentors on the journey. #CooperativeAutomatedDriving #autonomousvehicles #robotics #internship #reinforcementlearning

Last week, I completed my 6-month internship at Flux Robotics with a final grade of 8.5! 🎉 During this time, I focused on identifying an electromagnetic coil's optimal shape, durability, and capacity, through COMSOL simulations, backed by prior experimental data. These tasks were crucial for Flux Robotics in determining the best method for optimizing the magnet and handling different payloads. This approach is beneficial because it will enable Flux Robotics to use magnets more efficiently. During this internship, I gained significant experience in programming with COMSOL, Inc. Multiphysics, running simulations, and understanding electromagnetic control theory. I'm thrilled to share that my report wasn't just archived; it was directly integrated with my design and used in the first animal trial! 🐽 This exciting development highlights the immediate impact of the practical applications of my research. A special thank you to Christoff Heunis and Hanumantha Rao Vutukuri for their invaluable guidance throughout the project. 🙏 Looking forward to applying these skills and experiences in future endeavors! #internship #fluxrobotics #electromagnetics #simulation #research #COMSOL #engineering
