The 9th General Assembly of the Network of European Integrity and Whistleblowing Authorities (NEIWA) was held in Valencia, Spain, on 18-19 April 2024. On behalf of the Dutch Whistleblowers Authority, it was an honor to work alongside colleagues from 33 authorities from 24 European countries. During the two days, the work carried out by NEIWA concluded with the adoption of the Valencia Declaration, which emphasized the importance of protecting whistleblowers. NEIWA members emphasized the significance of enhancing the work and coordination of all stakeholders involved in whistleblowing, as their contribution is crucial for the establishment of a culture of integrity. #NEIWA #INTEGRITY #WHISTLEBLOWING

⚖ Very honored to contribute to the 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒆𝒕 𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒅𝒆 𝒍𝒂 𝒅é𝒇𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆 book (“Compliance and defense rights”) which has been recently published by Journal of Regulation & Compliance  and Editions Législatives | Lefebvre Dalloz. A welcome opportunity to address some of the pitfalls practitioners face in large groups when conducting internal investigations.   While France has now adopted the concept of compliance programs and settlements to resolve issues, it has not made the final mile yet: in-house lawyers do not enjoy the same status as their peers in private practice and the protection of attorney-client correspondence is limited in criminal matters. Consequently, they must enforce strict ethical standards while at the same time avoiding to add trouble for their business. [update 2] The second day of the INTERPOL #DVI conference covered two crucial topics. The first one featured several case studies that shared experiences from various kinds of disasters that occurred all over the world. The second topic focused on the efforts of international organizations, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC and International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), about identifying victims in crisis zones. The work of these organizations, along with that of DVI teams, is always regulated by international law. A detailed presentation clarified the different types of International law.
