🌍 Why this matters to me - As someone who grew up in North Carolina, just an hour from #Asheville, seeing the devastating effects of climate change hit so close to home is a stark reminder of how urgent the situation is. I’ve watched communities, including the one I grew up in, face extreme weather, loss, and uncertainty. My sister, brothers, cousins, nephews and more are all in the middle of what’s happening right now. These aren’t isolated incidents, this is happening globally, and it’s happening now. Just look at what may come this week in #Tampa as another example. Being a part of Demia‘s collaboration in the Blockchain for Sustainability roundtable is more than just another project for me, it’s a personal mission. My background in the US Army, United States Department of Defense and in technology has always been about protecting and serving, and now it’s about protecting what’s left for the next generation. When I think about my family, my community, and the world we’re handing over to our children, I know that bringing the right people to the table is essential. This isn’t just about technology or policy, it’s about survival. What we’re doing at Demia and with our partners and friends matters because it’s a path forward. It’s about transparency, integrity, and getting it right so the next time disaster strikes, we’ve done everything we can to mitigate its impact. The work we’re doing to streamline data and carbon markets isn’t just for the policymakers, it’s for every person who’s watching the world change around them. 💥 𝐇𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚 𝐱 𝐂𝐂𝐑𝐈💥 📢 We are excited to announce a new partnership between The HBAR Foundation and Crypto Carbon Ratings Institute (CCRI) to assess the energy and carbon footprint of the Hedera Network. The results of the project will include providing sustainability indicators for the Hedera network to all users and service providers that need such data, including MiCA sustainability disclosure. As part of this work, CCRI will also be developing a methodology to support the Hedera Guardian in generating Carbon Emission Tokens (CETs) related to Hedera’s network carbon footprint. This will facilitate carbon accounting for Hedera users by allowing them to allocate network emissions to their individual activities. This will allow developers of applications to create their own CETs and for the first time to reference their scope 3 emissions following the Global Blockchain Business Council’s Interwork Alliance Carbon Emission Token Protocol. 🌟 Grateful after this mornings closing ceremony and for the opportunity to participate in the #UNCTAD in collaboration with the UN regional commissions for Africa (ECA), Europe (ECE), Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and Western Asia (ESCWA) e-learning platform on #blockchaininnovation in trade facilitation. Massive thanks to the dedicated team and insightful guest speakers who made this course a knowledge-rich experience. In particular, I'm enthused by the profound impact of #blockchaintechnology on cross-border trade—an area critical to any economy. The trust guarantees, efficiency, and security it offers in multi-stakeholder processes are truly transformative. Witnessing how blockchain is becoming a global standard infrastructure in this sector is inspiring. The course illuminated how #smartcontracts, #earlyadopters, and #visionaries are shaping tailored solutions with blockchain, fostering flexibility and efficiency. It's evident that embracing blockchain is pivotal for staying ahead in today's rapidly evolving landscape. I'm proud to share that my final assignment underscores #Samoa's commitment to advancing technology, particularly in blockchain development. 🎓 Some weeks ago, I finished the ReFi Talents program hosted by Frankfurt School Blockchain Center. Besides my interest area of #supplychain #transparency and hence, #carbonemission #traceability, I wanted to explore creative business models that align social and environmental protection with financial growth targets and stimulating impact investment. There are two cases that caught my attention during the sessions: -   🌱  #Tokenization of #carboncredits which allow you fractional ownership of carbon credits so that even smaller business and individuals can participate in the voluntary carbon market. Each carbon credit, representing a specific amount of CO2 emissions reduced, is recorded as a digital token on a blockchain ledger which also can facilitate the verification and certification with the implementation of smart contracts. -     🌍 #Financialinclusion projects in the #globalsouth were of great interest to me. Many people are facing barriers to accessing financial services/credits due to the lack of proper identification documents. Blockchain-based digital identity solutions can provide secure and tamper-proof identity verification, enabling individuals to prove their identity and access financial services more easily. April 22 is Earth Day - but of course it will not be enough to celebrate our remarkable planet on this day, and then get back to business as usual tomorro. That's why I take it as an encouragement to continue to lobby for a healthier planet and brighter future. My next step will be to talk about the role of Token Economy and Crypto Securities in the context of sustainability on the BLOCKCHAIN AND SUSTAINABLITY STAGE at DIGISUSTAIN 2024 on April 30 in Frankfurt. DIGISUSTAIN provides a stage for the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals across 17+1 Stages, and we'll discuss with over 300 experts and participants from 200 companies about how we can use advanced tech for a more sustainable society & economy through #digitalization. In the section about the „Use of blockchain technology in the financial industry“, I will be delighted to assess "Tokenization in the industrial context: Increasing competitiveness and common weal", and share my own thoughts and what we intend to do to take this important discussion further through our activities at Bundesblock.
