“Five years ago, we sat in similar panel discussions, talking about the same problems that, until today, remain unsolved... Yet, we continue to discuss how we're “still” working on them. 🤔" In some ways, I agree - we are still at the beginning. If we consider that the transition from Web1 to Web2 took around 14 years, we're still in the toddler phase of Web3. But here's the thing - Web2 brought tangible use cases that enabled billions of people to start for example businesses online 🚀. In Web3, from my perspective, it still feels like a pond filled with more or less geeks. We’re still waiting 🙏🏼 to solve real-world problems that could genuinely improve people's digital lives. Web3 should be simplifying our lives, but instead, I see many great startups falling down the 🐇🕳️ of complexity. Just a few simple examples: our 🪪 ID card, 🩺 medical records, and 🚘 driver's license could all be stored in a digital wallet - simple, and securely managed by us, with full control over who gets access. Or take 🗳️political elections - why aren't we voting digitally yet, with blockchain ensuring security and transparency? We need stronger security for our digital identities and personal data, but I still don't see this happening. Yes, regulation is crucial, and much of this needs to occur within government frameworks. But let's start by truly identifying the pain points on which we can build… That’s why I believe in the potential of events like #CVSummit 2024 by CV Labs which play such a significant role. Keep going, you are doing an excellent work. 🤙🏼🙌🏻 Such a great start-ups was born this year, who truly work on what’s matter, like Catalyze 🤲 And last but not least, I loved to see familiar faces like Carina Schuster Kinga Pilat Janina Vinklere Ray Laracuenta Johann Nathanaël Hartmann Cindia Luest Michael Barskyi Ulrike Lierow-Schad …
Great reflections, Denisa. I agree, one of the biggest challenges in our industry isn’t the technology—many things, like the examples you mentioned, such as digital identity and voting, are already possible. The real challenge is aligning different stakeholders to adopt these technologies. Translating great tech into real-world use cases, with a strong narrative and an excellent user experience for non-blockchain natives, is fundamental. Consensus among different stakeholders (not just tech) is key. That’s why it’s crucial to bring together the brightest minds from diverse sectors to collaborate on what truly matters. It’s great to see you made meaningful connections at the #CVSummit. Professionals like you really help catalyse change.
I was there too! Haven't seen you though! Do you remember me, we studied journalism together something like billion years ago 😀 (pre- Blockchain times 😀 )
So great seeing you at the CV Labs ✨🫶🏻 Denisa Juna
Wow, very cool style of video :) I was glad to see you at the event.
As always, a pleasure meeting you 💜
Very cool video, just like the event was!
Denisa Juna I fully agree with your observations. Most start-ups fall short on story telling and/or real wold use cases. One of the sessions at #cvsummit I found extremely interesting was on how blockchain/web3 could bring the travel industry out of their ice age state. The good news is, that we are getting there and companies like CV VC focussing on blockchain applications and infrastructure are at the forefront of this.
