The Mid-West is becoming the go to place for regional rail maintenance thanks to the Local Manufacturing Investment Fund (LMIF). DIAB Engineering has been awarded $1.8 million in funding to expand its Geraldton based rail maintenance workshop area. The expansion will increase the size of the workshop by 1200 sqm to position itself for winning work in the future and establish the Mid-West as a rail wagon maintenance hub. By supporting the local manufacturing industry, we can create more skilled jobs and diversify our State's economy. For more information on LMIF visit 👉https://lnkd.in/gva2bFbb

As we approach the end of the year, it’s a perfect moment for me to reflect on the progress we’ve made in our department of ship shore power connection retrofit business at Cavotec. With all its associated challenges, this year has been filled with remarkable achievements that we are incredibly proud of. During this year we have successfully completed several shore power retrofit projects during commercial sailing and dry dock period of some low and medium voltage container vessels, that enhances their sustainability and energy efficiency. We have also been quite active globally to strengthen our position in this market with big ambitions we have planned for coming years. During 2024 we could expand successfully our shore power retrofit business from container ships to new vessel segments of PCTC ( pure car, truck carrier ) and bulk carriers. That has been a great achievement for us and beginning of another new success path. We are working hard to strengthening our partnerships with key stakeholders and contractors in the maritime electrification industry, while we've made significant strides toward greener, smarter , and safer shipping solutions. Beside execution of various projects, we have also developed more of standardised and containerised configurations for shore power connection which simplifies installation work and provides more flexibility during vessel operation. Looking at technical , commercial and operational aspects simultaneously during conceptual design stage has always been our key strategy to introduce more competitive solutions to the market. We provide solutions that satisfies the needs and requirements of our customers while our aim is to secure competitive price and top notch quality. These accomplishments reflect the hard work, expertise, and dedication of our exceptional team in Cavotec, which I am proud to be part of As we look forward to the next year, we are excited about the continued growth of the ship shore connection retrofit industry and our role in driving innovation and sustainability forward. Here’s to even greater success in 2025! 🚢⚡ #MaritimeInnovation #Sustainability #ShipShoreConnection #RetrofitSolutions #GreenShipping #Teamwork #cavotec #OPSA #marineindustry #smarter #greener #safer #shipdesign #shipbuilding #marinetechnology #projectmanagement

In a recent study we produced for the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, we found that increasing the production and sale of Connected and Autonomous Plant (CAP) equipment, combined with the savings and productivity benefits realised through greater CAP adoption, could add £417 billion to the UK economy by 2050. In the latest copy of Rail Director (produced by railbusinessdaily.com), our very own Adam Bennett discusses the economic, environmental and safety benefits of adopting connected and autonomous plant in the UK #rail sector. “Technology, particularly when it comes to construction machinery and equipment, has and will continue to be essential for the delivery of critical national infrastructure.” Adam Bennett, Interim Rail Sector Director at Costain Group PLC, writes about a recent study which has found that the widespread adoption of CAP in the construction and infrastructure industry would have enormous economic and productivity benefits for the UK. Six of the Universal Signalling team visited the new Global Centre for Rail Excellence (GCRE) site in Wales on Fri 6 December to fit the system demonstrator funded under a programme supported by the Department for Business and Trade and InnovateUK, to demonstrate innovations in railway construction technology. Storm Darragh delayed, but did not prevent, end-to-end system shakedown over the weekend and a demo to around 40 guests on Tuesday 10th. The demo went extremely well and has been widely reported in media. Simon Jones, Chief Executive of GCRE commented: "This is a great project. This is exactly the kind of thing that we have spent the last 7 years getting GCRE off the ground for. The difference that Universal Signalling could make to the railway is really exciting. We're looking forward to continuing to work with Universal Signalling as GCRE develops."
