✨ SUMMER ECO HOUSE: AN INSPIRING EVENT ABOUT CONSCIOUS FASHION AT IDA OSCAR FREIRE ✨ On November 13th, the IDA flagship at Oscar Freire was the stage for a special event that celebrated responsible fashion, circularity and the use of sustainable materials. In partnership with TENCEL™, the global leader in sustainable fibers of the Lenzing Group, and Textil Carmem spinning mill, IDA held the Summer Eco House event, reaffirming its commitment to conscious practices and the environment. The program was a success and included: 🌿 Live upcycling with Lucas Bettin, founder of Transmuta TMT, who demonstrated in practice how to transform pieces from the brand's past collections, made with fabrics containing Lenzing fibers, into new and unique pieces. 🌿 Round table on sustainability and circularity, with a team of experts who provided enriching reflections: Dudu Bertholini, Brazilian fashion icon Alexandra Farah, journalist specializing in sustainability Juliana Jabour, Business Development Manager for South America at the Lenzing Group Gilberto Campanatti, Technical Manager for South America at the Lenzing Group Marília Idesti, head of marketing at the oáz platform Lucas Bettin, upcycling specialist The panel discussed essential topics such as the impact of using responsible raw materials, circularity in the fashion sector and conscious consumption, inspiring everyone present to rethink the future of the fashion industry. When Jacinta invited me to the Mindful Fashion New Zealand awards evening on Wednesday, I didn't read the invite and rocked up like a SPCA rescue onto a James Bond film set... But the kaupapa was incredible. With over 92 million tonnes of garments ending up in landfills globally every year, it's important we celebrate the innovators pushing the sector towards circularity... Like the mahi Jeff Ward is doing with Offcut and James Griffin (A.K.A the worlds sexiest Librarian) from Sustainable Business Network Just to name a very few legends in the room that evening. And we're thrilled to tautoko the evening with @Critical. Cleanstone which was used for the awards as well as this beautiful installation using the Forest Cleanstone, made by our mates at Spacebar Design. As a our current and next generation is shifting the future of fashion and construction toward circularity, events like these are what's shifting the eco-system towards something we should have done a long time ago. Kylie Jenner wasn’t the only one to positively surprise us this week, during Coperni Paris’s #PFW runway in Disneyland Paris… #California did too, with the Responsible Textile Recovery Act! 🌍 Following in the footsteps of similar legislation in France 🇫🇷 and The Netherlands 🇳🇱 , this groundbreaking bill addresses the staggering textile waste crisis, where over 17 million tons of waste are generated annually in the US, with a shocking 85% ending up in landfills. With this new law, fashion producers will be held accountable for their products' entire lifecycle. They must implement robust #recycling and #reuse programs, giving consumers access to convenient collection sites for their unwanted textiles—yes, even damaged pieces. This bold step forward transforms how we handle fashion waste, alleviating landfill pressures and promoting a circular economy where materials are reused and repurposed ♻️ At athena studio, we’re excited to see this shift but can’t help but wonder: are products really ready to be recycled?
