The wisdom of the past can shape a thriving future of tourism. In my practice, I’m fascinated by how many industry leaders constantly chase the next big ground breaking idea. What we’re missing isn’t the next big idea. Ideas are everywhere—billions of them. Anyone who has had a cold shower has had an idea. What we need is better execution, a deeper connection to timeless wisdom, and the courage to turn old knowledge into new innovation. But often, the most powerful solutions come from looking inwards and backward—to the wisdom of our ancestors. This is especially true in the world of #regenerative tourism, where #indigenous knowledge is shaping how we rethink our relationship with travel, nature and local communities. By drawing from indigenous communities and their knowledge, we can weave new ways of understanding tourism as an interconnected living system. And, looking deeper at indigenous communities can help re-frame relationships and reciprocity as core interests of tourism. Indigenous cultures have long practised what we now call sustainability: Circular economies where nothing is wasted. Land stewardship that prioritises balance, not exploitation. Community-first approaches that ensure prosperity for future generations. Sometimes, the future is about rediscovering the past. Do you agree? #Innovation #Leadership #IndigenousKnowledge #ExecutionMatters #RegenerativeTourism

On the #LondonGatwickSummit panel, on 'Balancing future growth: regenerative and responsible tourism', our Director of Partnerships Louise Bryce spoke about being data led, our marketing campaigns' focus on driving regional & seasonal growth, aiming to grow bookings outside of peak season and showcasing the breadth of experiences to drive regional dispersal across the country. Our current focus is on the trend of set-jetting; our upcoming marketing campaign Starring GREAT Britain will enable us to tap into the key driver of visiting film and TV locations to discover Britain and the richness of our offer across the whole of the UK. She also explained VisitEngland’s work to build a new destination landscape for England via the roll out of the LVEP programme nationally and how VisitBritain will support and collaborate with regional stakeholders to promote regenerative tourism.

How Mediterranean Islands Can Lead in Circular Economy Practices 🌍 🌟 The Mediterranean is more than just a tourist destination; it’s a testing ground for #CircularEconomy innovation. Insular regions like Corsica, Sardinia, and the Balearic Islands face unique challenges, but they also have unique opportunities to lead the way. 📋 What Makes Islands Ideal for CE Leadership? - Self-Contained Systems: Their geographic isolation forces efficient resource management. - Tourism Revenue: Seasonal income can fund sustainable infrastructure. - Cultural Heritage: Strong local traditions promote reuse, repair, and sustainable practices. 💡 Actionable Strategies: 1️⃣ Circular Tourism Models: Develop eco-friendly travel packages and certifications. 2️⃣ Community-Driven Innovation: Empower locals to adopt circular practices through education and incentives. 3️⃣ Knowledge Sharing: Use islands as case studies for global sustainability lessons. 🌿 The Mediterranean can set an example for other regions, showing that circular systems are not only possible but profitable. What’s one innovative practice you’ve seen in island communities? #Leadership #CircularEconomy #Mediterranean
