Delighted to share this Forbes article on the future of healthcare, which I had the pleasure of writing alongside my partner Geraldine Maouchi and Hélène Musikas, strategy professor at HEC Paris. While sectors like automotive and energy are undergoing rapid evolution, healthcare stands on the brink of an even more profound transformation—one that will fundamentally reshape society. Projections indicate that U.S. healthcare expenditures will surge to an unsustainable 19.7% of GDP by 2028. This economic pressure is fueling the rise of a new, simplified healthcare economy where, preventive medicine and #SelfCare becomes the norm. Patients are increasingly empowered to manage their own health through online resources, tech-enabled solutions, self-medication, wellness apps, and more. Healthtech disruptors like Withings, visionary initiatives such as Forward, tele-consultation subscription models like those from Ramsay Santé, along with digital-native brands like MaryRuth's Organics, and numerous wellness apps, are shaping a rapidly growing consumer-centric healthcare ecosystem. These companies are bypassing traditional intermediaries, engaging patients more efficiently, and providing care at a fraction of the cost compared to legacy systems. For traditional healthcare providers, insurers, governments, infrastructure firms, pharmaceutical companies, and other health players reliant on outdated organizational structures, cultures, and distribution models, the message is clear: adapt to the consumer-centric healthcare future or risk being left behind.
