A delegation from the United Kingdom's Department for Transport (DfT) and Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) has landed in Pakistan to conduct a safety assessment of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA). This evaluation is the next step towards Pakistani carriers resuming flight operations between Pakistan and the UK. The visiting delegation is hosted by Mr. Nadir Shafi Dar, Director General of PCAA alongwith his team of subject matter experts. There wil be several high-level meetings between the two sides The discussions will examine aviation safety protocols, review documentation, and evaluate operational procedures. The UK delegation is also scheduled to visit airlines to assess compliance with international standards. AFRAA is among other African aviation stakeholders attending the EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency Project Steering Committee (PSC) Meetings, taking place from 11-13 December 2024 at EASA’s Headquarters in Cologne, Germany. The meetings are co-chaired by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the European Commission (EC) and organised in partnership with the African Civil Aviation Commission AFCAC on the subjects: ➡️ EU-Africa Safety in Aviation ➡️ Operationalization of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) ➡️ The Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) ➡️ Competition – Taxes and Charges The Steering Committee meetings are an opportunity to review updates on the progress and stream of activities developed under the above-mentioned Projects and solicit valuable input from stakeholders for the 2025 Action Plan. This will ensure better coordination of ongoing and future EASA-managed projects. Oman set to host ICAO Security Week MUSCAT: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will host the Security Week, and ministerial meeting, which will be held for the first time after the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) headquarters in in Montreal, Canada. To be held between December 9 and 12 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), the Week will focus on the role of global civil aviation security amidst the increasing growth of air transport worldwide, especially following the gradual recovery of the sector post-COVID-19 pandemic, and ensuring commitment to ongoing cooperation with other ICAO member states to overcome future challenges in the sector. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (“NCAA”) recently released the second version of the Air Operator’s Certificate (“AOC”), Operations Specifications (“OPS”), the document which was transposed into a 16-page form, contrary to it earlier position, wherein it was 70-paged, in August 2023, has been further revised to ensure that the NCAA continues to be abreast of changes and revisions made by the AOC holders BLP examines below the OPS and presents need to know information as it concerns an AOC. Future Aviation Forum unveils 102 agreements worth SAR75 Billion on day 2 The second day of the Future Aviation Forum 2024 witnessed the signing of 102 memoranda of understanding (MoUs), agreements, and deals, with a total value exceeding SAR75 billion. Held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, organized by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) in Riyadh. A seven-member team from the UK’s Department for Transport is in Pakistan to conduct an audit of the country's aviation standards, with a focus on restoring flights from Pakistani airlines to the UK. The audit, running from January 27 to February 6, 2025, will cover key areas like licensing, airworthiness, and flight standards. If successful, it could lead to the lifting of 2020 restrictions on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and other carriers, allowing them to resume UK services.
