It’s World Diabetes Day! What is Diabetes? Diabetes is a condition where blood sugar levels are too high. This happens when the body cannot produce enough insulin, cannot use insulin effectively, or is unable to produce any insulin at all. There are two main types: Type 1 and Type 2. As we age, managing diabetes can become more complex. Older adults may need to make different health decisions, from adjusting dietary habits to finding suitable ways to stay active, compared to younger individuals with diabetes. Learn more about diabetes management for older adults on the Diabetes UK website here: https://lnkd.in/eJm8fY9V #WorldDiabetesDay #WorldDiabetesDay2024 #Diabetes #DiabetesAwareness #DiabetesUK

There's widespread information claiming diabetes is reversible, but it's important to discern which type can be reversed. Type 1 diabetes is the non-reversible form of diabetes. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, leading to a lifelong dependence on insulin injections for managing blood sugar levels. However, Type 2 diabetes can be managed or even reversed through lifestyle changes like diet and exercise. There's a lot of misinformation out there; make sure you stay informed to avoid being misled. #DiabetesReversal #diabetes #nutritiontips #diabetesawareness

🤔Did you know insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes are not the same? Insulin resistance happens when your body stops responding well to insulin, leading to more insulin production. If left unchecked, it can progress to type 2 diabetes, where blood sugar control becomes much harder. The good news? With healthy eating and regular exercise, you can improve insulin resistance and potentially prevent diabetes! 💪 #insulinresistance #type2diabetes #healthawareness #preventdiabetes #healthyliving #bloodsugarcontrol #diabetesprevention #healthyhabits #fitnessandnutrition #wellnessjourney #diabeteseducation #takecontrol #healthylifestyle #preventativecare

HEALTH TIP: Limit Sugary Drinks Sugar-sweetened beverages increase risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, even in people who are not carrying excess body fat. They are also uniquely harmful for children, as they can contribute to obesity and conditions that usually do not develop until adulthood, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Healthier alternatives include water or unsweetened tea. #healthtip #healthyliving #limitsugar #healthydrinks #drinkwater

14 November is World Diabetes Day! 🟡 Type 1 diabetes is not preventable. The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is also unknown. In this condition, the pancreas makes little or no insulin*. 🟠 Type 2 diabetes is often preventable through a healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy body weight & avoiding tobacco use. In this condition, there are primarily two problems. The pancreas does not produce enough insulin and cells respond poorly to insulin and take in less sugar. both types cause longer term complications and affects many major organs, including the heart, blood vessels, nerves, eyes and kidneys. Also, factors that increase the risk of diabetes are risk factors for other serious diseases. Diabetes can be different for everyone - every lived experience matters. *Insulin is a hormone the body uses to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. #diabetes #worlddiabetesday
