🌍 Sustainable Operations in Congo 🌿 We're proud to share an initiative from our base in Congo, where our washing station has been making a significant impact for over 10 years. 🚿 Innovative Water Management: We collect rainwater during the rainy season, storing it in Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) for cleaning parts, enhancing resource efficiency. 💧 Efficient Wastewater Handling: Oil-contaminated water is collected in an underground decantation tank and then transferred to a 5000-liter storage tank. Dedicated contractors treat around 120m³ of this water annually, preventing environmental contamination. ♻️ Environmental Benefits: We reuse approximately 40m³ of rainwater each year, reducing dependence on external water sources and responsibly managing contaminated water to protect local ecosystems. We are committed to sustainable practices, continually seeking innovative solutions to minimize our environmental footprint and promote a greener future. #Dietsmann #DietsmannCongo #Sustainability #EnergySector #EnvironmentalStewardship #WaterManagement #GreenInitiatives

As River Likii strives to meet the demands of a rapidly growing population, it faces significant challenges. The increasing population has outpaced the capacity of water catchments to sustain a reliable supply for households and industries. Today, LWF hosted an inception meeting for the project titled “Improved Water and Waste Management Through Community Science in Environmental and Social Safeguards within the Likii River Sub-Catchment.” This initiative is supported by our development partners WWF through the WWF's Russell E. Train Education for Nature Program The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Likii Water Resource Users Association (WRUA), Nanyuki Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASCO), CETRAD, Mount Kenya Ewaso Water Partnership (MKEWP), Kenya Defense Forces, Nyumba Kumi representatives, Mazingira Recyclers, community water projects, Ewaso Maji Users Sacco, and others. Discussions centred on the critical challenges facing water resources in the region, with water pollution identified as a major issue. Key concerns included: -Illegal activities, such as illicit brewing along the riverbanks and discharge of residues in Kangaita Village. -Raw sewage discharge and soil erosion, which continue to damage water infrastructure and pipes. -Downstream users remain heavily affected by upstream practices, underscoring the need for sustainable resource use. Without collective action, the Likii River risks becoming a meandering trickle rather than a lifeline for its dependents. Participants were urged to adopt responsible waste disposal practices, especially given the declining water quality observed along the catchment and downstream. This meeting marks the beginning of the project, with a community sensitization event planned for Friday in the Kangaita and Likii areas. Together, we aim to secure sustainable solutions and advance SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All. 🌍 The latest Ecological Transformation Barometer reveals a hard-hitting statistic: 66% of the world's inhabitants are convinced that the costs of the consequences of climate disruption and pollution will be higher than the investments needed for ecological transformation. At Veolia Africa, this statistic is more than just a figure - it's a call to action. That's why we've been implementing concrete solutions to meet this challenge for almost three decades: ♻️💧Reuse in Morocco and Namibia: We reuse treated wastewater to preserve water resources, which are essential in these arid regions. ⚠️ Management and treatment of hazardous industrial waste in South Africa: We ensure the safe and efficient management of hazardous industrial waste to protect the environment and public health. 🚰 Production and treatment of drinking water in Ivory Coast: We guarantee access to quality water, meeting the growing needs of local populations. ⚒️ Treatment and management of industrial mining wastewater in Ghana: We develop solutions to clean up and renew water resources for mining activities, thereby reducing their environmental impact. These actions demonstrate that change is possible, here and now. To go further, we encourage you to join the #team66 movement. 🔎To find out more about the Green Transformation Barometer, click here 👇 https://ow.ly/ZJFy50SfisK #VeoliaAfrica #EcologicalTransformation #Team66 #Sustainability #Environment #Africa #GreenUp #ClimateChange

Acted works towards a ‘3ZERO’ world, Zero Carbon, Zero Exclusion and Zero Poverty. As part of our work towards Zero Carbon, Acted has undertaken a rapid assessment in Kismayo, Baidoa, Banadir, and Hargeisa, Somalia/land, to identify opportunities to: i) study circularity within the plastic and bio-waste value chains, and ii) develop programming that catalyzes these opportunities. In Somalia/land, the heightened occurrence of extreme climate events has evolved from sporadic incidents to a troubling norm over the past few decades. This has intensified the ecological challenges faced by the country, arising primarily from climate change, land degradation, biodiversity loss, and inadequate environmental governance. These challenges collectively impose significant pressure on Somalia's natural ecosystems, exacerbating the vulnerability of local communities. Review the full report on this link: https://shorturl.at/stGMV #‘3ZERO’world, #ZeroCarbon, #ZeroExclusion and #ZeroPoverty.

Ministerial Meeting of the 10th World Water Forum: A Collective Commitment to "Water for Shared Prosperity" On May 20-21, 2024, Ministers and Heads of Delegations from around the globe gathered in Bali, Indonesia, for the Ministerial Meeting of the 10th World Water Forum. Under the theme "Water for Shared Prosperity," this pivotal event underscored the global community's commitment to addressing water-related challenges and advancing sustainable development. The assembly recognized the outcomes of key United Nations processes that have shaped the global approach to sustainable development and water management. These include the Rio Declaration, "The Future We Want," the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Each of these milestones highlights the critical role of water in achieving broader environmental, economic, and social goals. Reaffirming the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation, the Ministers highlighted their essential role in ensuring an adequate standard of living and the full enjoyment of all human rights. The meeting emphasized that water is indispensable for human needs and must be accessible to all. The Forum participants recognized the importance of tackling water-related challenges through an integrated approach. This includes addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, while conserving, protecting, and sustainably managing ecosystems. With the impacts of climate change and population growth increasing demands on water resources, better management and cooperation are imperative. The assembly expressed concern that the world is off-track to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) by 2030. This goal focuses on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Failure to achieve SDG 6 poses significant risks to human well-being and the three dimensions of sustainable development: environmental, economic, and social. The Ministers and Heads of Delegations reaffirmed their commitment to addressing global water challenges. They underscored the need for sustainable finance, improved water management practices, and the generation and dissemination of water-related knowledge. This collective effort aims to safeguard water resources As the world looks ahead to the 2026 United Nations Water Conference and the final review of the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development" in 2028, the outcomes of this Ministerial Meeting will serve as a foundation for continued global action and collaboration in the vital area of water management. #WorldWaterForum #WaterForSharedProsperity #SustainableWater #WaterRights #GlobalWaterManagement #CleanWaterForAll #Biodiversity #WaterSecurity #SustainableDevelopment #WaterConservation #WaterAccessibility #WaterFinance #WaterCollaboration
