There is a tech category that is growing: Food+climateTech It is the intersection between FoodTech and ClimateTech: basically all ag & food startup which have a direct (and positive) impact on climate. It is getting bigger and bigger in Europe, while being still limited compared to the needs: - more than 26% of all global emissions are related to agrifood - only 10% of climate related investments are going to ag and food projects So, what is the solution? 1 ) better eduction on the link between our food system and climate change 2 ) more involvement from large companies Learn more by looking at the data in the link!

There’s a lot of dooms-day content doing rounds in climate. Every day I see yet another article talking about how we’re on track to cross planetary tipping points, how the Arctic is melting, global temperatures rising, heatwaves blowing across nations. And of course, all that businesses and governments are doing wrong to fix the manmade problem of climate crisis. All this leads to climate anxiety. A global survey found that 59% of youth were very or extremely worried about climate change. Trust me, we don’t need another newsletter telling us what humans are doing wrong (self awareness is great, but there’s a limit!) Instead, I wanted to do just the opposite. Build a newsletter that tells you everything we’re doing right. Because there’s a LOT of good things happening - new startups, emerging technologies, innovations, advances in materials science - that not many people are aware of. That’s why I started Climatopia - to cover everything that’s cool in climate. Every Wednesday, Climatopia will hit your inbox with the best startup stories, latest news and innovations in sustainability and climate. So if you haven’t subscribed yet, consider doing so. The 1st edition is out now 🗞️ Read it here: 👉 https://lnkd.in/g_nzV5BM And share your thoughts with us! . . . #climatopia #climatechange #sustainability #tech #startups

Can technology solve the biggest challenges of our lifetime? I'm convinced it can - if backed up with human will, investment, and action. Yesterday I had the opportunity to see some of that amazing technology and the incredible people and passion behind it at Wellington's first ever Climate Tech Summit. What is climate tech? It's scalable solutions that can solve big environmental problems: reducing emissions, removing emissions, adaptation and resilience for our already changing climate, and protecting our natural capital, including air, water and soil. The Climate Tech summit included presentations from about 15 Kiwi businesses who are breaking new ground in climate tech, with the potential to deliver huge benefits for the climate, for our environment, for our generation and future generations, and for the economy: Bold and ambitious innovators determined to make a difference. Amazing ideas that they are turning into reality included: - affordable nitrogen energy - fusion energy - converting food and forestry waste to energy - new energy sharing and distribution models - more sustainable food production and distribution models - emissions tracking and reporting (to help underpin behaviour change and investment) - turning captured carbon emissions back into energy, aviation fuels, or new products like cement - And so much more. I'm a little biased but one of my favourites was Good Grub Agritech (... I've had the wonderful opportunity to mentor them on their Creative HQ Climate Response Accelerator journey over the past few months). They are using black soldier flies to convert food waste into insect protein that can be used in animal feed and aquaculture. Did you know we currently import feed for aquaculture in NZ, often made from crops that could be used to feed humans instead? Pictured is amazing founder Jessie Stanley nailing her pitch yesterday. It was awesome to see Jessie and Leonardo da Silva Gomes take out a $50,000 prize (and a golden drink bottle in lieu of a trophy!) from Motion Capital yesterday - another shot in the arm for their capital raising, which has already received a $3.5 million grant. *Just* $4 million to go! All of the companies that presented yesterday are looking for funding, connections, and/or other support to help them turn their businesses into ventures that are transforming the world we live in now and for the future. One way you can help solve help the world's biggest problems is by supporting these companies too: You can find details of the nine companies that participated in the Creative HQ Climate Tech accelerator here: https://lnkd.in/gT9daKdp Follow them on LinkedIn, if you are an investor, invest in them, if you have networks or skills that could help, offer those to them. If you have big game-changing technology of your own, Creative HQ is running their next Climate Response Accelerator early next year and it's open for applications :)

📊 Exciting insights from the latest DealRoom and FoodLabs report on #ClimateTech and #FoodTech. Here are three key points that caught my eye: 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 l𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘅 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵: In 2023, Europe constituted more than half (58%!!) of global food-x climate tech funding, surpassing the US for the first time. 🌍💪 Tells a lot about priorities 😉 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: European climate food startups attracted $2B in 2023, matching the previous year's record high. This resilience is remarkable despite the economic slowdown. 📈✨ 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿: Food-x climate tech was the best-performing sector in Europe, only behind energy. To me, this shows the growing importance and investment in sustainable food technologies. 🌱🔋 More details on our opportunities to create sustainable future in the report itself. #SustainableTech #FoodTech #ClimateChange #Innovation #Investment

Tackling the Elephant in the Room: Can We Feed 9.5 Billion People by 2050 Without Trampling Our Planet? I'm on a quest to find a solution. Join me!" Feeding 9.5 billion people by 2050, a daunting task. Yet, what's even more challenging? Doing so without further harming our vulnerable planet. We live in a world marred by food scarcity and environmental degradation. Our present course is unsustainable, threatening both humanity's survival and our earth's wellbeing. Yet, we're forecasted to welcome another 2 billion mouths to feed by 2050. Imagine the pressure on our food production systems. The cultivation, the harvest, the distribution. The cost not just in monetary terms, but ecological. Isn't that a picture you'd rather not see? So, how do we address this looming crisis? It's high time we challenge traditional food production norms. We need to shift our focus towards agricultural practices that are sustainable, yet efficient. Harnessing technology, promoting urban farming, reducing food waste, altering dietary practices are all part of the solution. I'm currently delving deep into this topic, examining verified facts, figures, and ESG reports. My goal? To pen a comprehensive article that doesn't just highlight the problem but also presents actionable proposals. Stay tuned, as I unravel this global conundrum. In the meantime, what are your thoughts? How do you believe we can sustainably feed our growing population? Let's discuss and inspire change together. #SustainabilityJobs #GreenJobs #SustainableCareers #EcoJobs #EnvironmentalJobs #CSRJobs (Corporate Social Responsibility Jobs) #RenewableEnergyJobs #ClimateJobs #SustainableBusiness #GreenCareers #SocialImpactJobs #CircularEconomyJobs #CleanTechJobs #EthicalJobs #SustainableDevelopment #SustainabilityProfessionals #ESGJobs (Environmental, Social, and Governance Jobs) #ConservationJobs #ResponsibleBusiness #FutureOfWorkSustainability #LinkedInStartups #TechStartupLife #StartupCommunity #InnovativeTech #LinkedInEntrepreneurs #TechLeadership #LinkedInNetworking #StartupGrowth #TechInnovators #LinkedInBusiness #StartupSuccess #LinkedInConnections #TechIndustry #LinkedInEngagement #StartupMindset #LinkedInMarketing #TechNetworking #LinkedInProfessionals 🌿

What does it mean to say that climate change is an all-hands-on-deck challenge? It means that, to have a real impact, we need innovators with big ideas and bold solutions that can be scaled up. It means we need artists and activists to share stories and inspire people to do their part. We need government leaders at all levels to advance policies that cut emissions and accelerate the clean energy transition. And we need the business world to invest in opportunities that will create new jobs and game-changing technologies.

We are away at AgriFutures evokeAG . Was good to hear from Minister Murray Watt - no surprises that I’m aligned to some of the focus areas; 1. Supply and value chain transparency - whether it be trust in our food, food security or value behind the farm gate. 2. Biosecurity - I’ll leave the politics around farmers paying for some of this infrastructure but just say we have a substantial opportunity in global markets because of our biosecurity and the ongoing investment and focus will ensure we can continue to be a key part of global food security. 3. Sustainability and more specific the need for credentials around sustainability for market access (as well as saving the planet). 4. Climate change - whether it be Ag, Fisheries or Forrestry these are sectors which will be part of a solution not the problem. Let’s do this. 5. Technology - let’s see what the rest of evoke Ag brings. Lots to do. Let me know if you are here :)

🌍 Excited to share that I've recently had the opportunity to join the The Sustainability Mafia :Climate Ninjas Cohort! The sessions so far have been incredibly informative and interactive, providing valuable insights into sustainability practices. Each session lead by dynamic and visionary entrepreneur has provided fresh perspective and actionable insight into the world of sustainability and climate action. In my first session, Sudhir Kumar Pasupuleti, the visionary founder of Algrow Biosciences shared how #microalgae could revolutionize our food systems with sustainable, nutritious protein sources. We delved into the science behind algae-based proteins and explored the exciting business potential of this innovative market. 🌍💡 We continued our journey with the next masterclass, featuring Swapnil Shrivastav, the CEO and co-founder of Uravu Labs who shared invaluable insights with us. The session explored cutting edge technology for extracting water from air, offering a sustainable solution to water scarcity. This innovation reduces reliance on strained resources, turning science fiction into a practical reality for water security. In our next masterclass, we had the privilege of hearing from Tannya Garg of FarMart on the rapidly evolving #ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) sector. She highlighted how ESG principles are driving responsible growth, improving corporate accountability, and transforming the business landscape by enhancing transparency and stakeholder trust. A special highlight was the recent session led by Hari Prasad from Beyos | Beyond Sustainability. He broke down the complexities of calculating a business's #carbon_footprint in such a simple and relatable way that even a layman could grasp it. Truly eye-opening! A huge thank you to Anish Madeti and Aneesa Patel for organizing these mind-boggling sessions. Looking forward to learning more and applying these insights to make a positive impact! #Sustainability #ClimateAction #CarbonFootprint #LearningJourney
