🌍✨ Grateful to have participated as a panelist at the online launch of the MENA Working Group on Care, organized by the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at the American University of Beirut, in collaboration with Oxfam and the Global Alliance for Care. This initiative is vital in enhancing our regional understanding of care work and creating spaces for meaningful collaboration and policy advocacy. As a filmmaker, women’s activist, and scholar in Women in Media studies, I had the opportunity to shed light on the critical intersections of women’s care work in the Middle East and the underrepresented narratives in media that shape and influence societal perceptions. Care work, often overlooked, is the backbone of our communities. In a region where women's roles are evolving amidst complex societal changes, it's essential to recognize and value the care that women provide both within and outside the home. As a #researcher, I emphasized how media representation can challenge or reinforce stereotypes, and how #storytelling can play a transformative role in empowering women. This initiative and the discussions we had with other thought leaders are only the beginning. Together, we can advocate for change, amplify women's voices, and ensure that care work receives the recognition and support it deserves. 🌿💡 Thank you to the #AsfariInstitute, #Oxfam, and the #GlobalAllianceforCare for leading such a timely and crucial initiative. I look forward to the next steps in this collaborative journey! #WomenInMedia #CareWork #MENARegion #GenderEquality #WomenEmpowerment #PolicyAdvocacy #StorytellingForChange #ScholarActivist #MediaResearch

At our recent ceremony, we had the honor of hosting an inspiring guest speaker who spoke passionately on the rights of women. Lenah Migide's words were a powerful reminder of the urgent need to uphold and protect these rights in every part of our society. In light of the rising cases of femicide and gender-based violence in Kenya, we at Footprints of Hope are more committed than ever to this cause. Women should not only be empowered to stand up and speak out against violence but must also be heard, respected and protected. Lenah emphasized that these rights are not optional, they are fundamental. Our work is more than a mission,it’s a movement. We fight for a world where women can live free from fear, where their voices aren’t silenced and where safety and dignity are accessible to all. As we carry forward the message of our guest speaker, we’re calling our community, partners and allies to join us. Let’s work together to create a society that values every woman’s life and well-being. Together, let’s make a difference. Let’s ensure that the rights of women are not just discussed but defended for today, for tomorrow and for future generations. #tuzidisana #womensrights #stopfemicide #safetyforwomen #empowerment #genderequality #stopkillingwomen

ActionAid Bangladesh congratulates the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of the 12th National Parliament for recommending the ministry to determine the monetary value of women's household work. The need to establish a national income measurement system that assesses women's household and service work has been a long-standing demand of ActionAid Bangladesh. We are pleased and congratulated that the recommendations of the Standing Committee reflect ActionAid's long-standing advocacy and campaign on the demand and need for recognition of the undervalued work of women. ActionAid Bangladesh believes that this is a step forward for Bangladesh. If the recommendations are implemented, it will play a milestone role in the empowerment and advancement of women in the country. Since 2013, ActionAid Bangladesh has been working on advocacy and campaigns to bring women neglected and undervalued household and service work under the country's policy framework. Advocacy has been made through a series of meetings with the Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Women and Children, including the Deputy Speaker, to determine the value of women's unpaid work. In continuation of that, this step of the Parliament Standing Committee of the National Parliament reflects our long-term comprehensive efforts. At present, ActionAid Bangladesh is conducting campaigns including conducting surveys to assess the status of household wage-less service work at the marginal level and raising awareness at the community level.

"OK. I service the PR & Marketing industries. I understand why social media teams are frantically creating well-meaning prose around inspirational women in their companies or history books ahead of International Women's day tomorrow... I'm just not sure how I feel about these 'days'. Would they exist without social media? What is the point of them? Yes. I'm a female business founder, in an agency with 80% employees who identify as female. Many of my wonderful clients are women leaders or founders. Depending on who you listen to, around 63-75% of the PR industry are female. All of us could be celebrated, any day of the year. Aren't we the lucky ones. I hate that less than 1% of women and girls live in countries with high women's empowerment. (I just went back to check that figure was correct, it seems to be). I appreciate not everyone has the same life experiences, but I am thankful to live as a women in the UK. Thinking today of all the women - all the humans - who don't have access to education, who experience gender-based violence, who are forced into marriage, who are victims of FGM, who lack medicine for their children and don't have the option to work (or are forced into it.) Those living through war, famine and grief. What have I missed? In an attempt at making this post a tiny bit useful, a shout out to a few of the many brilliant charities supporting women; - Women for Women International, amplifying women's voices with their #SheDares campaign CARE International UK the charity behind #March4Women - Girls not Brides https://lnkd.in/eAHHgZiM - who campaign to end child marriage If you are from Women's charity/advocacy, work for one or champion one, please share in the comments, and I'll send them a small donation on Friday." #womenempowerment #womeninbusiness #womeninmarketing
