While the proposed revisions represent a progress and a step in the right direction in terms of strengthening food safety and protecting European citizens, there are still relevant concerns that must be addressed to ensure comprehensive food safety regulation across Europe. The current proposals overlook crucial aspects such as the safety of final articles, the need for independent scientific evaluation in risk assessments, and the regulation of endocrine disruptors. These substances pose significant health risks, and their unchecked presence in FCMs is a concern that must be addressed. From spinach to peanut butter, I've had the privilege of working on groundbreaking traceback investigations that shaped our industry. These experiences weren't just career highlights – they were catalysts for change. They directly influenced Section 204 of the Food Safety Modernization Act and the FDA's game-changing "Final Rule on Requirements for Additional Traceability Records for Certain Foods." But our work is far from over. With the January 20, 2026 compliance deadline looming, we're entering a critical phase.
