We were honored to participate in the Second Annual Conference of the MUVE-TEAM project at the Medical University of Varna. Witnessing firsthand the remarkable progress and commitment to advancing medical science was truly inspiring. MU-Varna is making significant strides in enhancing translational achievements in medicine. Their dedication to tech transfer and innovation is evident through high impact projects in Food and Nutrition, Neurosciences, Regenerative Medicine and Implantology, and Oncology and Rare Diseases. The project, financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, further supports 13 projects with real life application, which will help MU-Varna become a local and regional leader in technology transfer and applied science innovation. Over 205 researchers and young scientists across nine research groups are driving groundbreaking work—from developing new nutritional supplements and personalized implants to cultivating stem cells and advancing early diagnostics for oncological diseases. The university's focus on expanding international collaboration and improving research visibility sets a new standard for medical innovation in Southeast Europe. The establishment of the Department for Technology Transfer and Innovation further underscores their commitment to turning scientific discoveries into real-world applications. It's exciting to see such potential emerging from Bulgaria, highlighting the country's innovative spirit and expertise. We are super excited to share that our pioneering trial, PAKOA-001, has successfully screened and randomized its first participants at the Sanos Clinic in Herlev, Denmark! 🎉 PAKOA-001 is the first study to evaluate an innovative and easy-to-use approach for managing treatment expectations within a placebo-controlled trial, with the intent of reducing the placebo response and increase our ability to detect true effects of efficacious treatments. Through advanced sensory testing and detailed patient-reported measures, this project will provide critical insights into how study participants report their pain and how that affects the placebo response - insights that could transform how clinical trials are conducted worldwide. With a goal to enroll 150 participants across our three Sanos Clinics, this study reflects our commitment to making a meaningful impact on new treatment possibilities for patients in need. Led by our PhD Fellow Jakob Mejdahl Bentin, MD, supported by the NBCD and Sanos Science team, the project is partially funded by the Innovation Foundation Denmark. We’re also honored to collaborate with top experts, including Prof. Lars Arendt-Nielsen, a global expert in pain research at Aalborg University, and Prof. Lene Vase from Aarhus University, a global thought-leading scientist on placebo effects. At Sanos Group we are dedicated to advancing science and creating solutions that make a real difference. Stay tuned for more milestones to come! #ClinicalTrials #PlaceboResearch #NBCD #PatientImpact #partofSanosGroup

KCE Trials would like to congratulate the Best Cornea team and participating sites on recently reaching 75% of the planned recruitment, already a large achievement! Today they have randomized 167 participants and we wish them all the best for including the remaining 53 participants. The chief investigator is Pr Sorcha Ní Dhubhghaill (UZB) and the Sponsor is UZA. The Best Cornea study compares two different types of corneal graft to see which is the best corneal transplant technique for Belgium. Thinner grafts might result in better vision retention, faster recovery, and are more resistant to 'transplant rejection' however these thinner grafts could lead to more complications or might require re-operations, so they may not be worth it in the long run. This is perhaps one of the best piece of news lately. I am happy to let you know that Ethungshan Shitiri has won a prestigious Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship from the European Commission to develop his work at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya with me and Eduard Alarcon for the next two years, with two secondments: one at Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) with Samuel Sánchez Ordóñez and one at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) with Ilangko Balasingham. These grants are extremely competitive, and Ethungshan has excelled with a mindblowing score over 97/100. The project, called BeNiFIt, aims to drastically reduce the economic burden and eliminate the long turnaround times in the detection of chronic diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, or diabetes. Through the innovative application of intra-body nanoscale communications, we hope to cut down the delay of lab results from days to hours. Indeed, we seek to enable real-time data transmission from within the bloodstream directly to medical personnel or patients, hence revolutionizing healthcare through minimally invasive, highly efficient diagnostics. See more details about the project here: https://lnkd.in/d5CHmG3n We are very happy for him! We were sure that we would be able to do great things when he came to UPC about a year ago, but this is another level. Stay tuned! #msca #cancerdetection #postdoc
