#AI New Era Helium, a U.S. producer of industrial gases including helium and natural gas, and Sharon AI, a high-performance computing (HPC) company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud GPU compute infrastructure, and cloud storage, have announced plans to establish a joint venture. The proposed collaboration aims to design, construct, and operate a 90-megawatt net-zero energy data center in the Permian Basin. While the joint venture agreement is still under negotiation and not yet finalized, the two companies have signed a non-binding letter of intent. The agreement outlines a 50/50 partnership for developing a data center and associated infrastructure, including a 90MW power plant. The facility is expected to employ state-of-the-art technologies such as liquid cooling to support high-density Tier 3 data centers designed for AI and HPC workloads. The initiative seeks to utilize New Era Heliums 137,000-acre Pecos Slope Field in southeast New Mexico, a site already engaged in helium and natural gas production. Under the proposed terms, New Era Helium will supply natural gas to the venture through a five-year contract with options for renewal. The gas-fired power plant will also incorporate carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology to meet eligibility requirements for 45Q tax credits, aiming to capture approximately 250,000 metric tons of CO2 annually. Sharon AI will oversee the design, construction, and operation of the data center, leveraging partnerships with leading technology providers such as NVIDIA and Lenovo. The facility would adhere to the NVIDIA Cloud Partner standard architecture, enabling optimal performance for AI training and inference workloads. The companies anticipate the projects high-performance capabilities to attract hyperscalers and other major energy users as offtake partners, with potential for future expansion beyond the initial 90MW. #QuantumComputing After yesterday's post I saw today that Iberdrola is starting also to use Quantum Computing for a ten-month pilot project, with some quantum and quantum-inspired algorithms matched or outperformed the classical benchmark in order to maximize the Energy grid reliability and voltage control and thereby optimize the installation of the batteries. Saudi Arabia’s first quantum computer on its way after Aramco, Pasqal deal Saudi Arabia is stepping into the world of quantum computing by introducing its first-ever quantum computer. Aramco, the country's energy giant, has partnered with French computing firm Pasqal to bring a 200-qubit quantum computer to Saudi Arabia in the second half of next year. The quantum computer is poised to bring high-performance information processing and will initially operate in an analog mode, with an upgrade to a more powerful hybrid analog-digital mode expected within a year.
