They can also grow delicate fruits and vegetables, which require a regulated environment. This can help them get better returns and try newer crops than the usual ones which they cultivate in fields. In this context, our B-ABLE Foundation team has collaborated with Kheyti to educate farmers about greenhouses and its benefits in agriculture. WHY INTEGRATED FARMING IS SO IMPORTANT TO AFRICAN FOOD SYSTEM? The #IntegratedFarmingSystem (IFS) is a holistic farming approach specially designed for small/marginal farmers to enhance the system #productivity, #profitability, and #employment generation of their farm, ultimately ensuring their #food and nutrition security for their livelihood. The mechanism of IFS offers various ecosystem services making farms environment-friendly, sustainable, and climate-resilient. IFS is characterized by the allocation of different agricultural components systematically in a single farm performing synergistically among themselves making the farm more productive, healthy, biodiversity enriched, and eco-friendly than simplified farms. According #Rwanda 5th population Housing Census (2022), #Rwanda is made of 3,312,743 Households, of which 69% are engaged in agriculture activities (crop production or animal husbandry). 69% of Households that are engaged in agriculture, 26.8% do ONLY crop farming while 9% do Animal rearing ONLY. Guess how many households doing #integratedfarming !😎! 64.2% perform an Integrated Farming and this has a good implication to Rwanda Food system through promoting nutrient cycling, natural pest control, and diversification of income sources. Do you agree?

#Integrated #Farming #System For #Food and $Nutritional $Security in #India- Dr P.C.Patel Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) represent a comprehensive approach to agriculture designed to address various demands, including bolstering farm resilience, improving farmer livelihoods, enhancing food security, providing ecosystem services, and fostering adaptability and resilience in farming practices. These systems are characterized by the temporal and spatial mixing of #crops, $livestock, #fishery, and #allied activities within a #single #farm. #Important points of #IFS in #India: 1. #Holistic Approach: IFS entails a holistic approach to farming, aiming to meet multiple objectives simultaneously. These include not only food production but also farm resilience, livelihood improvement, and ecosystem services. 2. #Productivity and #Profitability: Literature reviews indicate that IFS has the potential to significantly improve farm profitability (up to 265%) and employment (up to 143%) compared to single enterprise farms. By integrating various components, IFS creates synergies that enhance overall productivity. 3. #Nutrient #Recycling: IFS enhances nutrient recycling through practices such as composting, mulching, and residue incorporation. This reduces the need for external input purchases and improves soil quality indicators like nutrient availability and microbial activity. 4. #Biodiversity Conservation: Diversified cropping systems and integration of indigenous livestock breeds play a crucial role in biodiversity conservation within IFS. 5. #Soil #Organic #Carbon: IFS contributes to improving soil organic carbon levels, which is essential for soil health and long-term sustainability. 6. #Climate #Resilience: By making farms adaptive and resilient, IFS contributes to climate resilience in agriculture.

Mr Gbenga Olaifa of Agbe-Loba Cooperative in Alata Village, Ikoyi Ile, Orire Local Government Area, Oyo State, shared how cattle grazing by herders has previously damaged his crops. However, he also described a new arrangement that has helped address the issue. On his farm, the herders now graze their cattle only after the crops have been harvested. In return, the cattle deposit dung on the farmland, enriching the soil with natural manure for the next planting season. This mutually beneficial practice has helped reduce recurring farmer-herder conflicts within the farming community. Managed or rotational grazing is also an aspect of regenerative agriculture. When carefully implemented, it improves soil health, promotes biodiversity, and enhances water retention, contributing to carbon sequestration. Have you implemented controlled grazing practices on your farm? We would love to hear about your experiences. 🌾 A Story of Resilience through Natural Farming 🌾 Meet farmer Bhargavi from Chemudipadu village, Tenali Mandal, Guntur district, who, with the support of her husband Durga Prasad, has been practicing natural farming for the past few years. Their journey is a testament to the potential of natural farming methods. Bhargavi’s paddy fields demonstrate the strength and sustainability of this approach. With a long root system, sturdy plant stems, and an impressive 38 tillers per plant—compared to just 20 in conventionally grown paddy—her crops stand as a symbol of resilience. Thanks to the greater soil-holding capacity in natural farming, her fields have successfully withstood two consecutive cyclone seasons over the last two years, showing resilience to extreme climate events. By the third year, her natural farming yields are now matching those of conventional farming, proving that sustainable methods can keep up with productivity demands. This success story highlights the promising future of natural farming practices that empower our farmers, ensure food security, and protect our environment! 🌱 #NaturalFarming #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateResilience #FarmerSuccess #SoilHealth #Agroecology #FoodSecurity #AndhraPradesh #FarmersFirst #EnvironmentalSustainability #AgricultureInnovation #EmpoweringFarmers #GreenFuture #RegenerativeAgriculture #APCNF
